This would really benefit from a list of ‘recommended answers for people who want to protect copyright and regulate AI as much as possible’ or similar, because the way the actual questions are worded is completely inscrutable and a lot of people don’t have time to read pages and pages of legalese.

What we did for the US version of this type of survey was to provide sample answers/templates for people too, to use and modify bc these are obtuse on purpose and too open ended for most to mention the most important issues. Maybe that would be helpful for future surveys

Oh yeah! Good phrase to use is "this question seems to be posed in bad faith because ..." and then the reason. That way you won't get caught in the parameters of their phrasing

I'll do my best, I'm not an expert by any means but I'm trying to make it as easy for other people to contribute as possible. Lots of well-intentioned people will be intimidated by the barrier to entry and not submit anything, which I have no doubt is by design.

I believe that is describing an opt-out system, which is bad because it would allow them to scrape what they want and opting out won't work.

I imagine that they are most keen to hear from practitioners, companies doing the AI stuff, and organisations affected by it. It is a very complex area of law and I believe the consultation is genuine.

Oh I understand that, but would it not be in their best interests to word things in a way that EVERYBODY can understand? Not every practitioner has the time to learn legalese OR decipher complex question construction in order to respond. Some of us have work to do.

Went through this a couple days ago, was a very frustrating read and the questions were obtuse but I do think it's really necessary to make your voice heard on this topic. The proposal for an opt-out approach to IP licensing for AI is absolutely unworkable and will only lead to widespread abuse.

Fwiw I think this is the wrong way to look at this. The consultation exists because the problem is recognised. The decision comes later. The handles are turning. As a practitioner, I can say this looks like a precursor to changes to rebalance rights of copyright holders and public in this area.
