Now what is it that most of those Happy states all have in common. Hmm, let me think, has something to do with a color...blue. Yes that's it. The color Blue.
Because rich people and companies have always exploited WV for the natural resources, paying crap wages and taking advantage of our citizens! WV is 50. Being a blue dot in this state is oppressive!
Maybe if they voted for better representatives that could change.
Instead they vote for millionaires like Manchin who are the exact people that take advantage of them.
Red states could do better and be happier if they just voted differently.
Not sure I can agree with Illinois being #2. I remember everyone being angry and miserable, especially when we had to drive in the snow, slush, and ice after a storm around chicago.
I moved to Merryland from S Dakota (I now refer to it as N Alabama) 35 years ago, & I pat myself on the back nearly every day for making that decision.
A couple of years ago when I was on tiktok, a guy built a pretty good database of many factors about living in the states and consistently most the worst outcome was in red States.
Joking aside, the most important point to take from the data, of course, is that unhappiness opens people to embrace the politics of resentment and oppressing scapegoats.
Republicans will not work to increase happiness because happy people don't vote Republican.
Could have told you that about Arkansas. We've consistently encountered some of the most miserable, rudest, angriest, hateful people in the north central part of the state. And, since it's a red state, we don't mention politics - ever. Makes TX look like Xanadu.
I'm from WV. We were always a blue state until the ugly racists voted against Obabma. Partly because of race, but more because the EPA was not coal friendly and many lost their jobs. Trump sweeps in and says, "I'll save coal and your jobs."
He lied to them for their votes. PERIOD!
It wasn't about coal.
If it was they wouldn't have voted for him a 2nd time.
Coal continued dying through his first term and there is nothing that he can do to save it.
I love how people like to jump on the bandwagon of “well why don’t you just leave? Move?” We don’t all have the luxury of doing so! Trust, I would if I could. 😭
Exactly this. Working on securing passports and appropriate paperwork for my family, but even that has so much red tape. Also, I kinda feel like I have more hell to raise before I abandon ship 😈
The happy people in FL don't have to work, and it's too many of them.
I steadily promote the FL/GA red-blue house swap that's been going on since 2016. GA could be very blue again if more liberal folks would consolidate here.
ILLINOIS is the SECOND-HAPPIEST??? I thought we were all way too busy bitching about our property taxes to be happy here. (I will say, though, that I would rather be here than just about any other state, given how far our governor has gone to protect us from the incoming disaster.)
Kind of a color contrast eye-candy image that reads absolutely zero information. Huh. The use of map legends to actually tie to the map image goes back to, oh… Magellan.
We could move into the top 10 if we had a functioning governor who could get the damn bridge fixed in less than the 6 years it's probably going to take.
Oh oh Michigan 32 .🥹🥹This has to be all done and cold .People are sure happy in summer when they bring there million dollar boats to Great Lakes. stay at there second home on Crystal lake 😂😂😂Well Washington state is 15 lol I am in between state hmm 🥹🥹🥹🥹🦋🦋💙
I used to be in a position to file claims for the Univ of Idaho student health plan. The administrator in CO said Idaho had more depression claims than any other Univ. She always she to ask what was wrong with the state. Girl.

They are insane.

Maybe there's some correlation with political culture?
Nah. Couldn't be.
Confused why Massachusetts is the happiest. Can any resident of that state provide some details?
Yeah we already knew that
Manchin’s work is done.
* just kidding *

They fell all over themselves voting for Sarah Huckabee Sanders in Arkansas. You see where that got them.
And we keep saying WTF?!
