I wish that were ALL we're in for. It's a lot worse this time. They're chain-sawing our bureaucratic infrastructure, which I'm sure sounds like two dirty words to most people, but it's something we DEPEND on in so many ways.
Like when a hurricane's headed our way. Or a Social Security check ISN'T.
We’ll be ordered to bail them out while we succumb to preventable diseases, our lands razed thru trump’s thieving executive orders, go hungry, lose our homes, & have to stay home because there are no more schools. Kids will be drafted & sent to steal Gaza & kill Mexicans & Ukrainians for a rapist.
He had to bail the farmers out with subsidies after the last time he set tariffs. This is going to put small famers out of business and force them to sell to Big Agra which is probably the intention.
In his first term the Obama economy provided the bail out cash. This time h’s going to have nothing to use down to the deep recession, cash crisis and wall st crash. Might as well call the IMF now, cap in hand!
He is an evil freak of nature, a bad seed. He gets the same thrill in destroying our Country, as he did as a 5 year old throwing rocks at a neighbor’s toddler in a playpen. A genuine demon.
The idiot doesn’t realize that: (1) the domestic market alone isn’t enough, (2) farmers need at least a year to be fully prepared, and (3) producing farm products isn’t free.
He thinks that imports are stealing from farmers in the US!! Unbelievable. The imports are all tropical foods, seasonal foods when it’s winter in the US and some barley. Almost all the imported crops are not available in the US when they are imported. Huge inflation coming.
The real kicker is the MORONS who support him believe that since the crops & product will be confined to the US, prices will plummet as a result, becoming much cheaper to the consumer . . . Their stupidity knows no bounds.
That's 80% of what we use and buy every year. Guess who also produces and exports potash. Yup Russia. All ff47 needs to do is lift his sanctions on them and problem solved. What fun we are having now. /s
We can't sell enough INSIDE the country to make up for what we used to get from exports. And many items will rot in the field because we don't have people willing to do THAT kind of work any longer.
And no one will be able to afford to buy the excess because they will be unemployed or without Social Security, like my wife and I and no health care. What fun.
In truth, we export about 80% of what we grow because we already overproduce. USAID picked up a lot of that overage to send to people who need it in other parts of the world. Thus, creatimg good will around the world.
Yep it does!! Man who grows cow & horse hay near us is freaking out.
He thinks his yields will fall 50% w/o fertilizer.
Though I do feel for him, he voted for Kamala! A rarity.
They can keep their crops. I have a lovely cabbage salad in the fridge (NS cabbage & onion, Mexican peppers). Oh, and fantastic Grapefruit from Morocco I think. Bought a box of them and tossed the box. Oh, and baked egg cups in the freezer made with local eggs, smoked back bacon & Canadian cheese.
This'll sound nuts, but I only *just* started baking eggs, in whoopie-pie pans, for breakfast fixin's and sometimes to add to doggo dinners. So the MOMENT I learn, after 60+ years, the EASY way to deal with eggs: boom.
(I love Canada. Canada is what the US should've grown up to be.)
I've always done a lot of home cooking. I used to keep a well-stocked freezer, but have limited space now. I try to can stuff now, although occasionally look around to see where I could hide a freezer...
I shared this exact sentiment in 2020, then suddenly in 2024 I had dozens of notifications about that reply.
The circular nature of politics is demoralizing.
I realize it’s not all. Just like it’s not all white women, not all men, etc. but i grew up in rural Nebraska. The majority of rural farmers voted for this a$$hat.
I farm in Nebraska, I know trump has a lot of support from farmer, it makes me sick. I just get so tired of being grouped, I felt I finally had to say something. Thank you for responding ✌🏽
I agree, except for this: a lot of people who didn’t vote for him are going to get hurt too. And the whole non-story around voting makes me wonder what they did exactly.
Agree, although this in going to affect so many people in the remainder of the country. I’m Canadian and I am angry at all this, but I feel for my American friends and neighbours.
This isn’t about national borders, it is about political borders. Those of us against Trump stand together - where we live in the US Canada, Mexico, Europe or Ukraine.
Well, there's going to be an awful lot of cheap food around, at least initially, until the farmers out compete themselves and go out of business and there's no foreign income.
Take your time start with herbs in pots eater only one time a week. Plants only take as much water as they need.
I have found it to be very relaxing and it makes me be thankful for what I grow.
THEY voted for this. Don't even think to complain to me. I will bust their head with a brick if those brain dead and soulless republicunt voters complain to me!
The last time farmers were paid over $25 Billion for a problem he created when China stopped buying after those tariffs.
The memory hole is a black hole.
The US population cannot possibly consume all the crops that are exported. The US could if necessary produce enough food for the rest of the world, no way we can just start consuming more agricultural commodities. Not to mention, the prices will crash & govt will subsidize their losses again.
Astonishing that the small number of GOP in Congress needed to gain a majority - quite simply aren’t selfish enough to worry about their own portfolios.
Expect a multi-billion dollar farm bill to be introduced any day now. We'll pay farmers not to plant what would normally be exported. Farmer's welfare.
Also I would imagine to meet demand for imported food internally, assuming that's possible, would mean planting less cash crops meaning farmers would have less money.
"...Have fun....".............. REALLY!!! Farmers are so hard working 24/7, and face great mental stress; and he says to "have fun". I wonder if he's ever spent an hour on a farm.
Well with more millions on unemployment that states can't afford and millions more nor receiving social security checks, Medicare or Medicaid coverage. exactly who is going to buy all this produce? Nice plan asshole.
Good luck farmers in your effort to try to recuperate the tariffs that Krasnov just slapped on the Potash (used in fertilizer) we sell you. He just signed your death warrant.
Might hurt their pockets a little. They think they'll still get bribed with subsidies like last time. Oh, 2017 - 19 were so great-because farmers were bribed and businesses were corrupt with the blessing of a FUNCTIONAL shady government. No such luck this time around.
Literally 80% of potash used in America - a key ingredient in all fertilizers is imported from Canada. The way small farms work is that they generally got to the bank each year and take out a loan. That covers their costs. Seed, fertilizer, equipment and pickers. They sell their harvest, pay back the
Bank and the remainder is theirs. This year banks will be looking at the costs - all up, and then the possibility that a crop will rot in the field because the pickers have gone. And with trade wars in place, no idea whether the crops will have any value. Subsidies for growing for USAID are gone.
This will become less and less entertaining to anyone as the US Consumer continues to weaken. Not to mention without immigrants/migrants many crops aren't gonna pick/sort/pack themselves.
I used to be a grain grower. American farmers way overproduce and glut the market, the price falls like a stone and they get propped up by the government. You can only sell so much corn and wheat domestically. Are these rubes going to direct market tomatoes locally? No. Bankruptcy on the horizon.
And grow your cops (to be sold in the United States) without a weather service to help with weather forecasts. And with no crop assistance or crop subsidies or crop insurance. This will go well...
with what workers, how will they afford the tariffs on fuel they buy, how will I eat fresh tropical fruits all year, who will pay the increase in insurance from global warming crop failures??????
So farmers have to develop new markets in a couple of months to replace markets developed over years of hard work? I don’t think this is going to be easy, nor profitable.
Doug Ford would be an idiot to cut power to the US. Sick people including children rely on electic medical equiptment to live. Canadians don't want that
Canada sells America over $100 billion in crude oil below the world market price. Even with a 10% trump tax on us tax payers America can't buy it cheaper. Take out the oil the US has a trade surplus with Canada. Tell me how is Canada ripping the US off?
The Chinese have now put reciprocal tariffs on many US agricultural products. So some pain for US farmers and gains for other agricultural exporting countries.
They are going to lose a shit ton of money. Harvested crops are going to rot in storage. Most of what we produce is feed corn and soybeans. But after he crashes the commodity prices he will throw money at them and they will cheer and say he bailed them out.
I am so ANNOYED that no one else see what the tariffs are really about, he is creating a scenario where he can blame others for making him buy steel aluminum fertilizer and other things from russia instead 😛
Many politicians have no idea what being a farmer is like; living on a knife edge; all your capital is tied up in land & equipment and it takes months to adapt to new crops or switch livestock.
Trump is killing US Agriculture, but US tax-payers will have to to provide life-support in the meantime.
Yeah and when they cut food stamps that'll also cut domestic sales of their products. This kind of thing happens when you have incompetent morons running the government.
80% of fertilizer comes from Canada and now has 25% tariffs added to the cost. Good job farms will go broke quickly. I guess that was MAGA's plan/goal?
Much like Europe was dependent on Russian gas, American food exports will find markets until next year when farming in Brazil, Chile and other temperate countries take all the business away from US farmers. Permanent damage starts with new crops starting in spring.
Remember that the banks will foreclose on farms leading those to be sold to foreign markets on Eyeliner boy's app. Gotta love their unethical behavior of making money off the constituents and their pain and struggle.
One of Canada's retaliatory measures will be purchasing and stock piling most of the rare earth minerals and of course potash included to only be sold after the tariffs are removed.
So yes, much more expensive, if you can even find it.
Well, not if we can help it. We will gladly help the American people find out what a bad plan Trump is.
So you’re going to buy a lot if American crops. Oh, and all of our stuff will become 25% more expensive. Have fun!
All it would take is to have an SS person assigned to hit Trump on the head with a house brick every time he says or does something stupid. There's nothing in his head that matters so it'll cause no damage beyond some pain.
Now where do I sign up for the SS? I'll do it for free.
Dont care, they can 'have fun'. In fact, maybe I will invest in funeral services so when they all figure it out they can do the Kool-Aid Jonestown thing.
Dump’s tariffs represent the final chapter of the destruction of US agriculture’s overseas markets. American farm products will be replaced in China, Canada and Europe by products from other countries, and farms across America will collapse.
That is not true 20% is exported, according to the US Agricultural Trade.
Import of some products, however, is up to 80% (avocados) or even around 100% (coffee and tropical fruits).
And mega corporations will scoop them up for pennies on the dollar. Same with all the homes from people going bankrupt because they lost their jobs. Or healthcare. Or both.
And since Trump has gotten rid of most all the skilled, hardworking immigrants to work the farm fields, it will be a BRUTAL growing & harvest season for the U.S.
HE HAS NO IDEA…..
I should know, many of my family and friends have worked for decades in this field.
Trump tells them what they want to hear. Dems need to make sure they know it's not true. Trump is a liar. Fact checking Trump needs to become an American pastime

He's a monster.

Though I do feel for him, he voted for Kamala! A rarity.
We have to start thinking about Trump's derailment of our economy, security, and foreign policy as a witting or unwitting Putin coup of America.
(I love Canada. Canada is what the US should've grown up to be.)
(And this is a small condo. Like, zero room for a chest freezer.)
They are perfectly ok with suffering like this as long as it hurt others they hate so deeply.
The circular nature of politics is demoralizing.
#doltcult
Most of my land taxes go to firer and rescue departments, public school programs your kids may need, and there is NO government funding for farmers. 🫤
Ugh, there are no winners here.
I have found it to be very relaxing and it makes me be thankful for what I grow.
The memory hole is a black hole.
Loyalty has to stop somewhere!
Blight was Trump all along!!!
What a leader. It’s a ‘grate’ country alright
🤡
Not to mention USAID, SNAP...
He couldn't connect dots if they were ●●
They won't have the workers to tend and pick the crops anyway!

If there are none, then I have zero sympathy for them.
In the UK, the farmers voted for Brexit, they were warned, and yes, it hurt them.
Husband has been a farmer/farm hand here for 33.
We support this fact.
We're being led by a moron. <--- Sorry, that is NOT news to most of you.

His stupid is just so flipping irritating.
Manifest.
There are only losers - and the biggest one is in the White House.
Well let’s see how you like him now.
Is he really that fucking idiot or malicious as if he really knows what he has done ?

There are other countries who mine it, but shipping times might delay the planting season...
The grids are integrated and in 2003 55 million lost power, which took up to 4 days to restore. It was also in August so only ~ 100 people died.

Best regards,
Dear leader
Trump is killing US Agriculture, but US tax-payers will have to to provide life-support in the meantime.
So yes, much more expensive, if you can even find it.
I guess Trump will make some great deal with Putin for all the potash the USA needs
So you’re going to buy a lot if American crops. Oh, and all of our stuff will become 25% more expensive. Have fun!

This is the STUPIDITY of Donald J Trump!!!
Import of some products, however, is up to 80% (avocados) or even around 100% (coffee and tropical fruits).
US goods are dead to me.
Thank you, MAGA
Yeah. Help them lose everything.
We won't have Canadian fertilizer to grow it with but we do have an abundance of bullshit so there's that.
Checkmate, atheists.
