My daughters’ elementary teachers would do this evening 4th and 5th grade. One even did it in 6th grade. Everything kosher, and tied into all the things. Kids really enjoyed it!

Grade 10 is on Lord of The Flies and Grade 9 is about to start The Odyssey. We’ll skip around with the latter book but not the former.

My son’s 3rd grade teacher started the year with a whole class book that he loved, but had to drop it because there wasn’t time/room with the rest of their curriculum. I vividly remember loving listing to whole class books at that age. This is a bad trend.

Freaking wild. Our (new, terrible) curriculum does have whole books but they’re supposed to read tons of it on their own, which were slightly mushing… but we literally don’t have time to do it all as read aloud let alone add another one. 🫠

I’m in fifth grade so we are full books, I believe?? But only our first two are novels. The others… one is a nonfic book that is heavier than a picture book. The last might just be a (dense, actually good??) picture book lol.

Yeah that's the thing. I've taught EL. Those lessons will have you reading the same book for 6-8 weeks at a time.
