Memorial was built to be a 70-80 km/h highway, but this section has a 50 km/h limit… so you can guess what speed people drive! 🙄

City could take this opportunity to introduce changes to promote slower speeds in the road design …but you know… #motonormativity.

What happened to the City of Calgary's initiative to introduce sound "camera" monitoring ?

Agree: Memorial Dr speed limits shoots up to 70 km/hr for stretches in West Hillhurst & in Bridge land. That attracts noise & car crashes.

I have a non noise question about that flood barrier - are they keeping what looks like that one really tall bit tall along the pathway? I guess it’s shortish in length but i don’t love riding behind a high barrier like that.

I would hope they’re following the same design concept they went with along the EV pathway with planting some very nice plants. More of that in general, please. Speaking of sound dampening …

There are plans to make it the whole area look nice, and the 3D renderings look pretty good but don’t think it’ll be as good as EV or Eau Claire.

The sheet pile comes in standard lengths. They hammer it down to bedrock (that varies in elevation) then once a long stretch is completed a welder comes in and cuts it all to a standard height.

I’d start with the vehicle tires are exponentially louder at 50km/h and higher versus 40km/h and lower.

It would take 23 seconds longer to drive the 1.3km stretch of Memorial Dr at 40km/h instead of 50km/h.

Would you rather have loud noise or save someone else 23 sec on their drive to Tuscany?

I really liked @tombabin.bsky.social 's video on motonormativity - we all have this unconscious bias & I think acknowledging it goes a long way to dispelling some of those us vs them feelings so we can make some good changes for everyone!
