1/4 of those executed at Nuremberg studied or even practiced law as well. Executed, hung. I feel like that’s a pretty strong sanction from a judge to a lawyer.
Also an important reminder that you can commit a capital offense with the stroke of a pen, even if you wear a fancy suit and a tie to an office every day. Those executed included politicians, governors, propagandists, and even a movement philosopher. Also some generals but about half were civilians.
I can think of one right off the bat where the "I was just following orders defense" didn't fly. The Nazis usurped the courts in Germany just like this. JD and Donuts are trying to play Andrew Jackson and the Cherokee. Stupid example to use.
This ideology is behind the sanctioning of Internal Criminal Court by the United States now. The idea that law puts limits on military activities is an anathema for the Fascists.
Anyway - his framing is revealing: His language suggests that 47 and his government considers itself at war. Which rings up some subliminal sympathies with certain audiences re: „heroism“, „fighter for the right thing“ and „exceptional circumstances“.
At least it's consistent, considering one of Trump's pardons in his last term was a war criminal who was convicted based on the testimony of his troops.
Judges can’t stop Trump? That’s just wrong.

Judges cannot command the military, but they do hold it accountable. Where feasible, they would act to prevent illegal orders. Failing that, judgements are made after the fact.
Probably more of those than there are famous examples of Presidents (or unelected rich manchildren) unilaterally shuttering entire Congressionally-mandated departments.
It did though only happen at the end of a war, with a few token Nazis convicted but the majority embraced to help form conservative think tanks in America & Europe.
Allowing them to rebrand themselves as good conservative values was the first step on the road to where we are now.

So obvious. So expected. So in need of contra.
Generals can be court martialed for breaking the law and the Geneva Conventions are US law.
Couchman should know that.
How could they so completely FAIL to impart ANY sense of honor, ethics, decency, or American patriotism in their graduates?
Also, the entire point here is that its not legitimate power
I hope JD sleeps with one eye open. Appalachia remembers

How would one demonstrate that those actions are legitimate, JD?
