The more INSET days that I organise and participate in, the more I've come to realise that less is more. Very few, if any, new ideas and instead more embedding and sustaining of what you've already done.

Is your shiny new thing something we can observe? Do you have a plan for how you are going to see if it is happening? Do you know what your team need in order to execute it? Are your senior colleagues on the same page?

Crucially, do you know what you want your school to look like before you introduce the next shiny new thing? How will you know that you've got to a point of "good enough" that you can move on to something else?

As an example: I've worked at TTA for five years now. Across that time, in terms of T&L we have had 3 focuses. We pick our focus based on observation and feedback, and we don't move on till it's embedded. In previous schools, we were doing 3 big things a year + a bunch of smaller things.

The longer I've been in education the more convinced I am that small steps are more sustainable and in turn have more impact. Our inset builds on last year and is aligned with our 3 tear strategic plan.
