Good read, and I love the analogy. It's akin to when a schools systems are difficult to use or don't have adequate guidance. Some people are going to use them well but the majority are not. Make things easier for your staff and the success rate will massively increase!

I still remember this blog. It’s interesting that over the last few years (& months especially) there’s been something of a backlash against retrieval practice (inevitable) with rejoinders from proponents that sound quite similar to ‘oh it’s easy to mess up for sure, you’re just not doing it right’.

Which I guess is a roundabout way of saying that if I was someone who loved group work, and told people who hated it that they just weren’t doing it right, and was chastised for promoting something too hard to do well, I’d probably be rolling my eyes rn.

ya. it is my opinion, based on what i've seen, that retrieval practice isn't the hardest thing in the world to execute (especially if you have a very powerful online tool...). Group work, on the other hand, I've only ever seen be effective in secondary at TTA.
