Wicked was outstanding! I was dialed in for the entire 2 hours and forty minutes. There wasn’t a flat spot from beginning to end. Talent galore; the acting was great and the singing voices were emotionally stirring.

I don't know. I saw a 5 min clip with Ariana singing and was immediately turned off. Can't imagine sitting through 2hr and 40 mins of that. I think there are people who like musicals and then there are people like me.
Thanks for this. I saw Wicked twice on Broadway and loved it. I've been kind of hesitating to see this film because I didn't want to be disappointed. I'l go now.
It was amazing. I’ve read the book and seen the Broadway musical - all good and this incorporated both. The acting and singing were like nothing I’ve ever seen in a musical. Well worth the time and the money.
Well let’s not forget when “the wizard” dropped in on OZ, the citizens made him The Wizard, so they are ultimately to blame for their predicaments. Sound familiar?
Another great movie, reminding us of these times, that may not make it to the theaters is The Old Oak. Last movie by the director about a forgotten mining town in England and their anger and blaming attitude at the arrival of Syrian immigrants.
I loved the book, but the musical is much more satisfying! The brutality & cruelty is not as much in the foreground (especially in the 1st act), but the real change is in Elphaba & Glinda’s deep friendship, & that Elphaba is stronger.
She doesn’t break in the musical, so the ending is different.
The film is basically part one of the musical. As for book-to-musical-to-film comparisons... I've heard that the film is an expansion on the musical, which sounds great. The book is almost nothing like either musical or film. Almost.
Took my wife to see it today. Visually spectacular. I'm not as much of a fan of singing spoken dialogue, but I thought the main songs were well done, plus cameos by the stage play actors was excellent.
Well said. My daughters dragged me to see it Friday, and I had low expectations.
It was a pleasant surprise and didn’t feel like 2:40. Not a dull moment.
YES! We saw it today, too. I was hesitant when they announced they were making, it’s one of the most beloved musicals. But, OMG did they do it justice. SLAYED.
Cried throughout, loved sharing it with my 8yr old daughter 🩷💚
Also, the story seems oddly relevant to the current times, doesn’t it ?
All the positive reviews of the film are so encouraging. I've seen the stage production several times, and I was worried that the film version wasn't going to do it justice. I'm looking forward to seeing it on the big screen.
I haven't watched it yet. I saw the play/musical around 2004. I had read the book and was so excited. As cute as it was, it wasn't the same story. My disappointment clouded my judgement. I am looking forward to the movie and will separate it from the original just like The Colour Purple. 🤞🤞
I felt the same way for the four times I saw it on the stage. I spent the intermission waiting in line for the bathroom. OK, and get another drink. Just trying to defy gravity and 69 it takes champagne.
I mean to be honest I really really love the Wicked Broadway adaptation
I thinl the direction I saw it taken in offers a lot of interesting moments to the characters themselves that kept me hooked. From set pieces to the liveliness of how they sang it was fun
Took my 6 year old grandson last night and it was all good until the screaming monkey metamorphosis scene. Then it was “Pop Pop, can we go now” for ten minutes or so. 🤣 The sequel won’t be on his to do list, I fear.
Nonetheless, it was all you said. John Chu gets an Oscar nomination again for sure.
I saw the musical a few years ago. I didn’t like it as much, having grown up with Phantom and Music Man, etc. But then listening to a few of the songs later, it has grown on me and I have been anticipating this release. Glad to hear the movie is 👍🏼👍🏼. Can’t wait to see it!
I’m waiting on the movie premiere of “Trump The Chump” to come out,and I’m hoping that Alec Baldwin will play the starring role🤔😂😂😂😂😂.
All others should play their filthy selves😂😂😂😂.
“The Mushroom” could make a cameo appearance🙈🙈🙈🙈😆😆😆😆😆,but tweezers may be needed😆😆😆😆😆😂😂😂😂😂😂😂.
i had a friend who wasn't a LOTR fan but he wanted to make me happy and suggested we go see (i think it was the two towers) it. when it was over he said "god i thought it would never end" and i said that i was a bit surprised that it ended so abruptly :-)
I've seen the show on Broadway and in Boston, and was so excited to go. It exceeded my expectations. Just outstanding from the spot on casting to the sets and costumes and I can't wait to go see it again!!
One of the people I went with fell asleep at some point and I cannot understand that. Why go to something you won’t like? Only explanation I have for why someone would fall asleep.
Agree completely. Have seen the play multiple times and expected to be disappointed. But no way! I was completely swept away. Great acting & the singing was incredible! The only shock was that they are breaking it into two parts. Everyone but me knew. Can’t wait for part two.
I'm weird because I didn't think a movie looked good? Sounds like your world view needs tweaking, not mine. As to why...the make-up is awful, the theme, childish and the subject matter has already been beaten to death in 100's of other spin-offs. Pardon my opinion. I was gonna watch it anyways 🤷
I hate the fact they chose green skin for the witch. Green has always been used to symbolise the jew and their love for money. Very anti Semitic of @universalstudiosfl.bsky.social
Hi kathy.Your account shows your kindness,so I am writing to you hoping that you will open your heart to the charity work that I do to solve animals. This costs me a lot of money. If you want to contribute even $5,we have a lot of debts that we have to pay off.Only if you can ❤️👋
i was kicking my feet and clapping (quietly) like an excited child most the time. Im 19 and autistic + disabled and was not expecting the movie to handle some VERY real topics, esp not ones that i know a good deal about. Genuinely was all i thought abt the rest of that night
the ‘Animals should be seen not heard’ moment genuinely took me by surprise. It took the movie from “oh so theres world building and conflicts” to “Oh. Oh this is based on SPECIFIC real things.” It shocked me in the best way
I have been waiting for this movie for 18 years. I didn't want to see it because I didn't think any production company would try to do the story or soundtrack justice. I never saw the musical and didn't want it ruined and a half-hearted money grab. I was so wrong. I cried throughout and loved it all
Ugh, need to look up that website that tells you when to pee during a film, I can’t make 2 hours 40 minutes when I eat all my snacks and drink all my water when the previews are still on
THIS. I love and hate the character so much she played Glinda SO well. i kept joking with my mom abt how i wanted to bonk her over the head with a bat lmao, but the character is both written and played VERY well
Agreed! The acting was stupendous and it reminded me that she was an actor long before singing became her whole thing.
That said- I hate how overproduced the soundtrack was for the film adaptation. It made it all feel so lifeless and commercial compared to the source material.
I literally said I feel for you if it didn't have that impact, which means I hate you weren't able to fully enjoy the emotional impact of that song like so many others.
You're projecting a bit. But if you felt I was judging you, I apologise. My intent was surprise and pity... not judgement.
Glad you liked Wicked. We took our 3 grandkids ages 12-16. The time flew by and the cameos were great. Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande were both fantastic leading ladies. Cried a few tears and laughed a lot, great family outing. Can’t wait for Part 2!
I remember Ariana on Nickelodeon when my daughter was young & was still surprised how much she made me laugh even when I knew what to expect.
Love their voices&when they sing together it’s so beautiful. So much fun! My son didn’t want to go, but it was all the family so he had to & he loved it too.
I have a neighbor who wants to see it BUT he is absolutely NOT a fan of scary stuff. I've been told that the flying monkeys are pretty terrifying. Is that true? Don't want to traumatize him.
Same. Just wondering if they are worse because I am sure with CGI they could be much worse. Maleficent was pretty terrifying as well in the Disney version of Sleeping Beauty.
Which is to say I may one day watch it. I don’t think it’s a bad story and I don’t regret seeing it in the actual theatre in New York… but… it’s not something I’d want to watch twice.
There is a lot more scene exposition, character backstory and it just felt like it really brought it all together. The end of act one was hands down better than the musical in every way. I went in thinking the same thing but it really didn’t even feel like 2 hours and 40 min.
Agree, looking forward to the second part. It was a great weekend for the theatres. They really needed this bump. I’m all in on helping the movie experience survive.
I haven’t seen the movie yet but if you ever get the chance, I recommend seeing Wicked on Broadway. It was the best musical/play since Phantom of the Opera.
Did you sing along while crying like a little girl?
Because I didn’t. Nosiree, I did not.
I did not weep like singing along to “Defying Gravity” at all.
I wish they perfected the sound mix before sending out the KDM’s all over the world. For a budget like that, it’s certainly was a disappointment. But yeah, over all the movie was good. Shoe-in Oscar nods for production design, costume design and VFX.
Agree. I went because … Christmas … feel good film … gotta balance the Alien franchise with something. But I really enjoyed it. Looking forward to Part 2.
Glinda and Elphaba (the Wicked Witch of the West) are rivals at college. Then they're friends. Then there's a boy they both like. Then they meet the Wizard of Oz. Then Elphaba realises that the Wizard is an asshole and flees the Emerald City.
I really liked it except for them damn screaming monkeys . I like Ariana grande and Cynthia Erivo think they did great. I just can’t stand I have to wait a whole year to see the next one.
I felt exactly the same - the monkeys brought back nasty memories from the mid 70’s when I saw the OG WoOz. And I can’t wait another year - and I need to get the soundtrack!!!! 🩷💚
The first time I say the wofoz I hid my face and cried, I was 5, and yet every year I would watch it and hide my face at the screaming monkeys, and repeat! Finally I was 15-16 and I said why am I watching it, originally it was the change from black/white to color. So then I stopped! Still hate them
I begrudgingly went with the family; I don't care for musicals. The drama surrounding the fan poster, the relevance to our current political climate - didn't want to get into it. I go see movies to unplug and escape.
I left wanting more. So, so good. Cynthia was phenomenal. Can't wait for Part 2!
I was part of the production an i did that with 100s of other performers. they treated us like shit. I'd like to say i was responsible for the reshoots.

is it streaming? I saw it in the theatre a long time ago.
is amazing, her singing Defying Gravity had me in tears.
(The movie is apparently being presented with one 525,600 minute intermission.)
The movie has plenty of time to develop characters and back story, which is compressed in the B'way production.
She doesn’t break in the musical, so the ending is different.
It was a pleasant surprise and didn’t feel like 2:40. Not a dull moment.

On X I’m “proud2bliberal”
Yes.

I’ve just never been huge on the plot
Nonetheless, it was all you said. John Chu gets an Oscar nomination again for sure.

“The Mushroom” could make a cameo appearance🙈🙈🙈🙈😆😆😆😆😆,but tweezers may be needed😆😆😆😆😆😂😂😂😂😂😂😂.
Of course, I wasn’t ever that crazy about the original “Wizard of Oz”, either…
i fell asleep during the Battle of Helm's Deep in Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers
now you may think: "why? ALL THAT ACTION!"
NOTHING HAPPENED UNTIL THE END OF THE BATTLE. no plot changes, just drudgery waiting for a conclusion (i've read the books i know what happens).

no thanks... more for you!
That said- I hate how overproduced the soundtrack was for the film adaptation. It made it all feel so lifeless and commercial compared to the source material.
Cynthia Erivo absolutely smashed it. So dominantly powerful and moving.
I feel for you if it didn’t have that impact.
Try to see how this is making you come off.
You're projecting a bit. But if you felt I was judging you, I apologise. My intent was surprise and pity... not judgement.
But your right it flew by 🧹 🎶
Love their voices&when they sing together it’s so beautiful. So much fun! My son didn’t want to go, but it was all the family so he had to & he loved it too.
black person with green face.
look it up
The stage musical wasn’t this long and was boring as hell … and the movie is only part one?
No thanks!
I was 15, on a drama club field trip we all saved up for (from Wyoming).
It was fine. Ok.
I am surprised at the film’s positive reception. I’ve no desire to tune into it beyond morbid curiosity.
I don’t see how making part one of the Wicked movie longer than the (already bloated) stage version makes it better.
I know I’m in a minority! 🤪
Because I didn’t. Nosiree, I did not.
I did not weep like singing along to “Defying Gravity” at all.
man just tell me what happened
Also, much singing and dancing.
I left wanting more. So, so good. Cynthia was phenomenal. Can't wait for Part 2!
