I remember an article from about 2011 that accurately defined the huge political and cultural differences between the N and S of the US and basically, very accurately foresaw/ predicted what is happening now.

I would love to read it again if anyone recognises it from this (rather poor) description.

I think there's some truth to this but Trump era US politics are *less* defined by North-South divides than US politics were 20 or 30 years ago. Just compare Gilded Age era election maps to those of 2000/2004 vs 2016/2024.

I really don't know how the US continues as a going concern under the current constitution. The holes are too numerous, and the current moment shows that the only reason it hasn't disintegrated over the last 80 to 100 years has been due to Waaagh!

The challenge will be to square what has to be a root and branch restructuring with a public position that what is happening is a restoration. You won’t make headway with saying Constitution is Bad, you need frame it as saving the conception of civic virtue as embodied in the Founding.
