We really need to start caring about lying, as a society

it is absolutely true that lincoln tried not to get too far afield of public opinion on slavery, calibrating his positions and actions according to what he thought was the mainstream. but it is important to note that at no point did lincoln ever disavow or deny his *sincerely held antislavery views*

🚨 When it rains it pours; Trump has apparently signed ANOTHER 212(f) travel ban tonight, this time banning all foreign students and researchers going to Harvard.

i sometimes wonder how much of the constant litigating of gripes and complaints is a function of the fact that many democrats seem to be as interested in proving their seriousness or independence to the *political press* as much as anyone else

the core problem with "just triangulate" is that polling shows Harris won "voters who knew what the fuck was going on", which pretty directly implies that you cannot fix whatever problems we have by changing facts. the problem is people who don't know facts.

The top priority for Trump 2.0 is to punish the libs and science is lib-coded despite “STEM” being centrist to conservative coded because the pro-STEM rhetoric is really just anti-humanities rhetoric, they don’t actually support science and half of them think the Earth is 6,000 years-old.

A component of this is that MAGA is essentially the practical political expression of a sweeping conspiracy theory that anything Republicans don't understand is a plot against them by globalist commies. Therefore, anyone with expertise in a subject they don't understand is viewed as a threat.

Magical things happen when you have a near super majority in Congress

Lee: Would say it would be “illegal DEI” for a lesson plan on the Tulsa race massacre? McMahon: I’d have to get back to you Lee: Do you know what the Tulsa race massacre is? McMahon: I’d like to look into it more and get back to you on it.

just a reminder that the dem who ran this campaign unseated a 3x gop incumbent who had never won by less than double digits

Hmmmmmm.

holy fucking shit

Drone use is so prevalent in Ukraine right now because neither side can break dug-in infantry defenses. Ukraine has to sneak drones into Russia because it can't break dug-in infantry defenses. Russia has to lob drones at Kyiv because it can't break dug-in infantry defenses. It's extremely difficult!

You know, MattY picking "Democrats going to visit El Salvador to defend a man deported without due process, an issue which polls like 86-14 in their favor" as his example of a losing issue for democrats is the most MattY thing possible.

waiting for the first national democrat to embrace pedocon theory

has been said a million times already but polling universally shows that trump has negative approval on immigration now and abrego garcia has a lot to do with it

the real baffling thing about contemporary politics is rando radical TwitterActivist69 is seen as the voice of the Democratic Party while the actual radicals in the GOP get literally no coverage in the mainstream press until something big happens

case in point:

why would "popularists" keep bringing up coalition-splitting issues. could it be that they have sincere political beliefs they want to impose and are hiding behind a facade of just-the-facts empiricism? couldn't be

this this this

person who hates unions has some advice about the party that has historically supported unions the most

oh my god

#UkraineWar: Overview of Russian equipment losses added on 04/06/2025 *note as with anything else, the aircraft losses might later be revised (up or down) based on new evidence Full list: oryxspioenkop.com/2022/02/atta...

one thing that's interesting here with Abundance is that you have Ezra Klein who is trying to push a partisan, normie lib line but then a ton of the boosters are centrist anti-partisans like Josh Barro etc

do you know how bad it is to get cooked this hard by KENNEDY

The BLS, which produces the CPI, told economists this week that a hiring freeze led the agency to cut back on the number of businesses where it checks prices. Response rates for one data set increased in the April CPI as fewer businesses were surveyed www.wsj.com/economy/cpi-...

it’s almost like courage in the face of fascism is rewarded by voters or something

i think the funniest thing about Matty Y thought is that while triangulating on some issues might be a way to win votes, Matty's "popularism" is entirely built around the elite punditsphere and not actual polling

ngl this is pretty good

my depressing but actual answer for this is, like a lot of republican policy, when you tell a normal person this they look at you like you have absolutely lost your mind and think you’re making it up.

Killing hundreds of thousands of children to save absolutely nothing.

it’s fucking infrastructure week all over again

to the degree he is actually mad about this, it’s because a) he isn’t getting as many handouts he wants, and b) it makes doge look even worse

the funny thing about this is that it’s maybe the only thing she’s ever been right about and she couldn’t even be bothered to read it

the kids will never understand the rage you feel when you realize you missed a step while writing down the directions

I'll give this person credit for one internal consistency. If you want to hold this kind of attitude and advance a political project simultaneously, you're going to need to do a lot of stuff Stalin was in to. As for how that makes anyone free....well, I did say *one* internal consistency.
