Really enjoying the stories about congressmen getting yelled at about DOGE shit in their town halls. Not because I feel like it's necessarily going to move things in the right direction in the next election cycle or two, really. I just like stories about congressmen getting yelled at I think.

honestly i genuinely worry because this would be the perfect time for a revisionist power to make moves in the midst of chaos

[willem dafoe unprompted] now, this cookie monster. [toothy smile] what a creature, what a lust. it consumes him. [crosses legs] he’s really a tragic figure.

"The crowd again started shouting 'tax Elon,' 'tax the wealthy,” “tax the rich' and 'tax the billionaires.'" The county went 68% for Trump www.lagrandeobserver.com/news/local/r...

in the trump administration, “merit” is pronounced “white” like how strom thrumond said it.

Since I’ve been getting this a lot - if you feel like supporting me by buying a jersey or something, I would rather you make a donation to Trans Lifeline or The Trevor Project www.thetrevorproject.org

The NYT is deeply invested at an institutional level in boosting Trump

also, Luxemburg and Liebnicht were killed during an armed attempt to stop elections the SPD was certain to win. Rosa Luxemburg was the Ashli Babbitt of communism.

The Pentagon will fire 5,400 civilian workers next week.

Trump just ordered the DOJ to eliminate the police misconduct database. Imagine losing your child to police brutality &finding out the officer had a violent history that wasn't tracked. That’s what happened to Eric Garners family. The officer who killed him had many complaints before that fatal day.

it would probably be good for blue state governors to start openly talking about their plans to protect citizens if and when Trump deploys the military domestically I have been arguing there needs to be a pro-democracy pro-Constitution govt. in exile for this reason We need a counter to the regime

This

We were being lectured about how ridiculous it was to compare the "anti-DEI" push to resegregation literally just yesterday.

its genuinely insane that they're firing CJCS for being black and CNO for being a woman. that is what's happening here

Reiterating that this would be one of the largest tariff hikes in modern US history—could affect >$300B in US imports, mostly from close allies like 🇨🇦🇲🇽🇪🇺🇯🇵🇰🇷, & if targeting vehicle parts would drive up prices for US carmakers in conjunction with existing steel/aluminum tariffs

honestly, firing the JAGs is maybe even more alarming than just going after CQ and Franchetti

They want war crimes. I do not know why the media will not say this. They say they want war crimes. Heggy got his job because he supported war crimes on Fox News. They think it is good to hunt children for sport.

Unfortunately you have to primary everyone, not just because they don't have what it takes to fight, but because they don't have what it takes to rebuild. Last thing you want is them to win by default and then tread water until the next Trump comes to power

Amphetamine psychosis delusions of grandeur

My position remains the same: The Democrats who win their primaries in 2026 ought to be, *need* to be the Democrats willing to put the law back on Trump in 2027, even if it means bad press or angry donors.

2 fucking headlines right next to each other

That CSIS is even entertaining this situation is a mark of autocratic breakthrough. It is not a mere partisan proposal, it’s an attack on the free world & the post-war settlement as a whole. It must be assessed as such. I don’t think you can work there and stay true to the Four Freedoms.

This is an “initial” purge. Reports suggest this could expand to “tens of thousands” over the coming weeks. Shock and awe now hitting the Pentagon

Fellow veterans, former coworkers, former clients, my kid's best friend's dad, childhood friends, the girl that sat next to me during driver's ed...all federal employees - dedicated civil servants - all lost their jobs over the past 10 days at the whim of the richest man in the world.

MORE: The Trump/Hegseth Friday-night military purge continues—and includes top JAGs.

General Brown is a brilliant, amazing leader. I worked at the Air Staff for three years and it was known that he read everything the staff wrote for him. He believes if an analyst took the time to write it, it’s his responsibility to read it. Very few generals do this.

again: "ICE operates by Vampire Rules" is an objectively true and also funny statement

I want to be emphatic here: Dan Caine is exceptionally capable, I worked for & around him for a while but we're not close, I have no idea why he wasn't promoted (likely because he was a reservist), but the position shouldn't be vacant absent an extraordinary shortcoming that isn't public knowledge.

they like him and want him to rule us like a king.

This is so many words to say Trump fired the chairman of the joint chiefs because he’s black www.nytimes.com/2025/02/21/u...

there's simultaneously two major trendlines occurring with this administration 1. laying waste to a lot of what keeps government/society stable in a really reckless way 2. loudly telegraphing that they see themselves as above accountability ("what are you gonna do?")

I think the two biggest determining factors to how democrats handle the discontent brewing in their house is (1) how many retire vs get pushed out and (2) how the handle the budget fight, because that will shape how democrats fight the many other battles to come

The Republican Party has been the motivating force behind most visceral patriotism in my life, because their efforts to destroy the cosmopolitan liberal democracy in which I was born have made me realize that I am in fact quite attached to it, and willing to countenance a lot in it’s defense.

This is very, very bad. Am working on a write-up, but let’s just say that firing military leaders for blatantly political reasons is wildly inappropriate; firing all the too lawyers is ominous; firing them all at the same time is a terrifying five-alarm fire

This should be a huge red flag to countries other than just Ukraine. Predatory weaponization of interdependence is something the US can probably exploit in the short term but the rest of the world will, rightfully, avoid American solutions if that's our modus operandi

Oh fuck, what a grift. J6 terrorists sue a DOJ controlled by Trump; Trump orders DOJ lawyers to settle for an undisclosed amount, both sides agree to an NDA. This can happen dozens, hundreds of times. Just an ingenious way to funnel tax dollars to far-right terrorist groups.

"Fear now stalks the land. This is the most visceral indication that America has entered into an existential era for the future of democracy" --- Larry Diamond

Keep defending your public services!

Good explanation of an infuriating trend: judges saying they can't rule for standing issues (unions don't have standing to represent their members!) or because those affected have not exhausted executive branch appeals *that Trump now controls and rendered useless.*
