I think it’s important to define what I mean by “personal experience” here, because it’s not like that. Games can LITERALLY have secrets hidden in them that no person has seen before. Things like ARGs or secret endings/routes or glitches or random seeds for Minecraft worlds or hidden dialogue. (1/4)

In a movie, those things are always there, and have appeared in the screen of every person who has ever watched it, and so all that’s needed to find it is for somebody to point it out. Games, however, are much more involved, and require active participation instead of idle observation. (2/4)

In addition, games LITERALLY integrate the player as a key role of the story. Sonic doesn’t run unless you tell him to, and Mario doesn’t save the princess. On the surface this doesn’t seem like much, but now consider meta games like OneShot or Undertale/Deltarune, DDLC, IMSCARED, and so on. (3/4)

These are all experiences that physically can’t be created with movies or books, because they inherently require the consumer to be reaching through a window in the 4th wall in order for it to reach back and shake our hands. They are personal in a VERY specific way that other media cannot be. (4/4)

Very well written, I appreciate it. And yes, you are absolutely right. Games have more dimensions. I was being very narrow-minded there, even though there are games I've experienced myself that stayed with me maybe more than a book or movie ever did.
