I mean, tariffs are an extra cost, and costs generally do get passed on to the consumer no doubt. But I am with you that under this guise, we'll see excessive gouging beyond any tariff costs

I remember a great, simple example from school. In BC there used to be a 100% tariff on California (or maybe all US) wine. So a $20 Cali bottle cost $40 in BC.

BC wines could charge $35 a bottle and be cheaper so they'd still sell.

So, BC wine producers didn't need to compete on quality.

They could just undercut Cali wines which were much better tasting by $5-$10 and no need to make a quality product.

End result: inflationary pricing for substandard product.

I don't think there's any strong reason to buy 'Canadian' or 'US' goods in particular. These are two states built on colonialism, slavery, exploitation and genocide, both still actively perpetuating those things around the world. Instead, I suggest we build class-based struggles against both states.
