We all have to support the opposition in Serbia. The people want and deserve to be part of Europe and not some third world putin vucic who is a boot licker.
America historically has been the beacon for democracy but has sadly taken a U-turn while other countries are rushing to pick up the torch! Strange times! I pray we all survive it!
Even the Nineties could have gone differently with less simplistic foreign involvement. Instead, we still see a deep hatred of the West, especially America, where the West is most needed.
I think it is all about belonging. The West refused to offer it to the Balkans (including Turkey) and Putin is not only offering but making it feel warm and inclusive (it’s not real of course). People just want to belong.
OFHS there are protest all over the world but not in America. tRump is disqualified from taking office based on A14 S3 of the Constitution of the USA. Stand up for your country.
He’s going to abolish that pesky old Constitution. January 18th is supposed to be the People’s March, but pressuring our politicians would do more. Phone calls are most effective. Work on the midterms. March, demonstrate, absolutely. I did and will again, but do more, not a one day feel good thing.
Ukraine’s courageous refusal to accept defeat has empowered movements across the region, from the fall of Assad to the protests in Georgia and now Serbia. Putin and his oligarchs better pray this infectious sense of people-powered protest doesn’t reach Moscow.
Waiting for the Hungarians and Slovakians next. However as these are not democracies, I hope people don’t expect the corrupt leaders to just resign. Never gonna happen. Same in Georgia. Protests bring no chance. At least not protesting this way.
Democracy Now! tends to cover protests more than legacy media.
A lot of younger peeps organize on Instagram on a local level.
Older people on Facebook.
Find protests near you and go, January is going to have a lot of them.
The West needs to support all Eastern Europeans in their fight against Russian tyranny and hegemony. Not just with words, but with arms. Supply them, the weapons they need to ensure that they can free themselves from the evil Russians. Putin will not stop until he’s defeated.
It truly is the upside down world, when the former Soviet bloc countries are fighting for democracy and we are being led right into authoritarian rule.
What confirms the world is upside down for me is, seeing how Americans are standing passively by like a deer caught in headlights in denial the headlights are a threat.
I saw earlier where they said oh maybe there’ll be around 30,000 people but they thought it could be 100,000 people just like you posted here and it’s at least 100,000 people. This is how you save democracy, peacefully.
People are rising up against autocrats, in defense of democracy, from EU (Georgia, Romania, now Serbia) to the Middle-east (Syria) and Asia (S. Korea), recognising it as the only way forward. USA, on the other hand, is in the process of establishing an oligarchy, and wrecking long-standing alliances
Despite what OP is implying, Serbs are protesting the government for their corruption which is complicit in a deadly accident, not because the government is friendly to Rußia.
It is a duel edged sword…they are protesting the corruption yes, that is made possible because of the pro-Kremlin regime. They are intertwined in the minds of every protester there.
Really? Who makes the corruption poßible in South Korea then? Is American corruption made poßible by Moscow? I know a little bit about Serbian history, and their many succeßive governments have never needed help from outsiders to be corrupt. This has happened many times in Serbian history.
They are still protesting the Kremlin-friendly regime. Just because every government they’ve ever had has been corrupt doesn’t mean they want Russian influence as you can see across all of Europe these days. What does South Korea have to do with my post?

I used to live in downtown Belgrade by the Parliament.
I expect it to get worse later.

I might could swing a day in D.C., but that would take a big chunk ($) out of my activisty stuff here in my city.
...If you got the money to get to D.C. there's a giant march planned, though.
oni moraju da izbacit njega!
