Do not forget when voting that because of the liberals, at age 75 they increase the OAS by &75 per month! CPP appears to be well looked after and contains sufficient funds to last for many many years!

If you're younger and in good health, 67 might sound reasonable, but 65 is when things start to fall apart, in my experience. People who want to work past 65 still can. It's not like it was in past when turning 65 meant you had to retire, like it or not.

The $2.7 Trillion SS Trust Fund is on paper only. By law (for IDK how many years) SS must invest all monies collected that are not immediately disbursed. The only thing they are allowed to invest in are government bonds. The majority of those investments are in "Special Issue Bonds"

None of that is true in Canada. The Canada Pension Plan has an investment portfolio that outperforms most mutual funds: for many years now, there have been requests to open it up to individual Canadians as an investment vehicle for RRSP, so good is its historical record of investment success.

In addition, by law, the funds are not available to the government to spend. That's directly opposite to the US system, where all their governments since the 1960s have used their SS contributions to help fund Medicare.

Last night someone on here criticized me for being "retired" Like I was living the easy life and hadn't earned it. I worked since I was 16, often working 2 jobs or multiple shifts until I graduated. Then I dealt with harassment and sexism. As a retiree, I support my aging parents. Never easy.

I’m unable to work, since H1N1 ended my career.I am in constant pain and have nerve damage which affects my mobility. So I’m on disability and AISH and in 4 years it will be CPP & OAS. If it’s cut I’m homeless. I worked and raised my 3 kids alone. I now rely on CPP. The alternative scares me.
