First off, let me say thank you for your posts. I think they are accurate, informative, and ahead of most other posts. I would love to see interviews from the Ukrainian people and how they are coping with life right now. We here are dealing with a legal war but they are dealing with actual war.

I think:

1. Forget positive/negative - go for honest / interesting
2. Forget democracy - will just bring back to the status quo, of it you want to , figure out what lessons each 'democracy' is learning and how they are adapting it.
3. Post US hegemony. What are leaders thinking? Are they ready?

I don’t want to talk about DJT. I have my newsletters with actual news - it’s enough of “bad news.” I like talking about democracy, its principles with leaders from around the world - will this be tone deaf now as we are all busy surviving? Shall we focus on what unites us? Make it more positive?

Perhaps a focus on the day-to-day realities of individuals living in what is supposed to be a democracy, but has in fact not been a viable and functioning democracy for quite some time.

Both the positive AND the challenges.
Everybody has those. What most of us aspire to is common among most.

Maybe inspiring stories of little instances or actions that assisted in keeping or saving a democracy? People need to simultaneously see things they can do to effect change and the results that came because of it.

Talking about the principles and importance of Democracy I think is the *appropriate* tone during this time. People need to be informed and reminded why democracy is so great and worth fighting for. Also hearing from foreign leaders makes a great contrast to America's push towards isolationism.

He is an expert on kleptocracy and corruption, and I find him especially compelling on the gap between democratic institutions and the citizens they are supposed to serve (which is what I think leaves us open to authoritarian capture). I think what lots of people want is hope. Right now I look for journalism and stories highlighting examples of grassroots movements and people all over the world who work for positive change. There is danger in feeling like nothing can be done…inspiration and hope matter so much in this moment.
