Let us not forget, that modern Danes are direct descendents of the Vikings. (Scandinavia is Denmark, Sweden and Norway, if you've forgotten.) They were seafaring explorers and vicious, and cunning warriors, when they needed to be. But lovers of Peace and a damn fine Mead when they didn't.
Unfortunately, Denmark will soon realize that diplomacy is not a language that dictators understand. Dictators are cruel selfish takers. Your words, no matter how sincere and sensible, are useless. I suggest you hunker down and talk to other NATO allies on how to defend Greenland from Trump.
Europe is familiar with dictators and Denmark plays a key role with the egress of the Baltic Sea in their territorial waters becoming important with the skulduggery of the Russian dark fleet.
I agree! Europe has been there/done that when it comes to dictators. I think a lot of countries just never expected one from the US in this century and were a little bit nonplussed. I think there will be a new world order and it's emerging fast.
We’ve got Putin, Orban and Fico in Europe at the moment with the far right pressing everywhere. What happened in the US emboldens them all, but it’s a rallying cry and a warning for democracy as well.
Breaking the world order is what Putin, Xi and MBS have long wanted.
It's chilling and frightening! The problem is that America is so huge that the atrocities that are happening, unless it's in the immediate area where they live or directly affecting them, don't alarm people enough. It's not covered by media enough. Social media is the only thing that links us.
There is a weird detachment to Americans that is encouraged I. America and not so much in other countries. This live of money is scorned in most nations as crass but it seems to be the measure of success in the US. It appears to invite rule breakers in the pursuit of money
Sir. Do not trust trump. If you do you will have Russian troops on your soil faster than you can say "What?". You are a polite person unlike trump. Stay strong and what is best for your country!
A message from a lowly American - though I am a great (35X) Grandson of Ragnarr Loðbrók Sigurdsson - so I will dare be forward and comment. Do NOT bow down to this bully. Do not kiss the ring. False kings are only propped up by those who appease them.
Genuine question. How would NATO help here if things with the US go bad?
Is this where they’d have to invoke Article 5? Could they do that if the US doesn’t agree? Doesn’t that take a unanimous vote? Or would the others be able to do their own thing outside of it anyway?
Rasmussen is so logical and clear. That is the approach anyone sane would take, but Trump is not sane and I’m worried he has an obsession with the idea of annexation, despite the vast majority of Americans being against it.
Thank you, Sir. We appreciate your response and agree with you. Also, thank you to the Danish for fighting and giving their lives to help us in the past. We have always been able to rely on you. Trump and JD Vance are wrong and do not speak for the majority of America.
The problem is, that the US government knows all this, but they simply doesn't care. Trump is obsessed with Greenland because it will make him "a great president". So what to do about it...?
I wish our "leaders" could speak in as considered, moderate tones to our allies. Whether they want to admit it or not, we need our allies. It's not a question of whether they need us more than we need them; we need each other. Now more than ever.
He doesn't get it... It's painful to watch. Denmark and it's European allies, assisted by Canada need to send military forces there at once and cut off power to the US base. At the same time top NATO military leaders should tell their US counterparts of their conviction as to who Krasnov works for!
I think what you mean, is: they need to revoke that 1945 contract, and kick that one base off Greenland until the U.S. learns to play well with others.
Yes! Probably quicker. It seems Carney got some respect just by talking of a new Canadian-Europe economic and security pact... So perhaps the bully would respond to revoking the pact!
🥰 Such a calm tone with rational thought — so great and soothing to hear; thank you for your kindness.
Unfortunately, he wants the whole land mass and all of its resources, not allied bases.
Don’t trust him.
Don’t allow more military in.
Don’t even let him set foot on Greenland.
We’re so very sorry.

The USA is the greatest threat to peace in the Arctic.
Breaking the world order is what Putin, Xi and MBS have long wanted.
Democracy v oligarchy
Everyone is one of those things.
So either he's a weak leader begging for Trump to stop being such a badass, or he's finally accepted that America has a right to control Greenland.

We have the oligarchs destroying our country.
Please help if you can.

The US cannot be trusted.
