Needs PTC to allow enough trains to pull ridership (hourly both directions for ~20 hours a day, plus a couple half hour trains in rush hour).

When this is a success, the good people of Williamson and Maury Counties will clamor for their own line to Columbia, at which point you’ve got critical mass.

I just googled this so I will defer, but system-wide it looks like CSX tracks can accomodate a top speed 60-70 mph pretty comforably.

Average speed for the Star is 37 mph. Would that be about the same in this hypothetical?

Great question, I hesitate to even conjecture. The tracks down by Murfreesboro are a lot straighter so probably faster there, but part of the build process for double-tracking ought to focus on track speed.

It's been a minute, but I'm pretty sure I was looking at the state set on commute patterns. Says survey data was 2021.

For InFlow, Rutherford, Williamson, Sumner, Wilson, Robertson, Montgomery, Cheatham, and Shelby are over 10k a day.

Shelby being on that list is wild.

I’d bet it’s even higher now. traffic volume on 24 is up ~13% since then.

Yeah, I would guess the same being a little higher. One of the arguments on the fiscal note for vouchers was continued population growth particularly in Mid-TN.

I love Memphis, but hated that drive down 40 when I came back to visit my folks. So much flat nothingness.

That would make a one-day ticket to Bonnaroo actually enticing.

I would add Sewanee on that list, then I could ride my bike to camp in South Cumberland.
