Like i'm minecraft's biggest hater but even I knew this was going to make a grotesque amount of money. Minecraft isn't just popular on its own its the basis for loads of popular online content and has been for a decade. Of course the movie, no matter how trash it is, is gonna make bank.

I think people overestimate how much hate-watching actually helps a film, show or game.
Most people are not going to waste time looking at something if they're not going to get enjoyment from it, especially if they have to pay for it.

the overestimation is also enhanced by the way most communities now are fairly tightly knitted bubbles.

If a community says movie looks bad and nobody will watch it, there will be a mentality within that this is how every single person ever will think of the movie, ignoring members outside of it.
