Since WWII America has been a source of global economic stability. Now it is the number 1 threat to that stability. But don’t expect Australia’s major parties to break their vow of silence on Trumpian carnage.

To be clear America has always been a destabilising force in the world it has always been an oligarchy capitalism is designed to be an oligarchy Australia is an oligarchy too and we are only a cycle or 2 away from open fascism either we jump to the left from here or we slide into fascism
Thanks for posting!
Also, do you know if ANU been approached to take any US researchers as they flee US?
On DW’s Inside Europe podcast I heard about Aix Marseille Uni employing several due to Trump’s policies as many now going to France. Could that happen here? TIA.
Trump's 3 months in the White House should be a sour lesson for the democratic, free world, and it should unite it in the fight against any of his emerging wannabes. If you don't want your lives affected by the ideas of the authors of his famous Project 2025, beware.
Stop them before it's too late.
More than fold it's tent sand withdraw, as you say, I still remember the Mx missile incident when Hawke said we may withdraw from testing. The US response was immediate, and procured the collapse of the $Au.
Maybe we could back ourselves, stop kowtowing to the man-baby in the White House, do what is actually best for our national interest and learn to stand on our own two feet in this new world. Just an idea but it would take political vision, clear communication and sustained effort so... probs not.
I suspect that this is already happening, all around the world. But behind closed doors is the appropriate way
It is in no-one's national interest for America to become a long-term failed State, but it is sensible to make preparations for the time if/when it does
The damage has been done. Trust has been lost. Restructuring is visibly under way around the world (UK, Europe, Canada, etc.) but you wouldn't know it was being considered here based on the silence from our government. If it is then good but it is going to be difficult to wean Defence off US tech.
I think the world shud turn their back on trump and America for the next 4 yrs. Ignore him. He thinks he is th most powerful man on this planet, show him he not.
Major parties are often out of step with the public mood. Their first instinct is always: “How will Rupert Murdoch react?” It’s a mix of weak leadership and lingering media intimidation.

But, defence is a really long term thing and that cannot be fixed overnight. Not by us or the EU & Canada!
