Taiga is a series I really want to revisit because I think it has so so many good qualities- but I came into it expecting focus on the Tri-Squad and Taiga's identity as Taro's son. So when those were the least focused on things it did hurt my experience of the show, and I don't think that's uncommon

Yeah, for me it was not just the lack of time to focus on our heroes, but also crucially there wasn't even time to focus on our VILLAIN. I spent all of Taiga going "who tf is this and why is he being so PETTY about the middle schooler??" & to this day I still kinda don't care to see him, as a result

Like, once I found out What Tregear's Goddamn Deal Is, it did help me a bit, but like 1) THAT INFO'S LOCKED AWAY IN A LIGHT NOVEL, REALLY? and 2) I still can't shake that first impression of "This guy is harassing a CHILD for no reason & he's tiresome & I would like to never see his face again."

I think he's a bit like if Juggler was less fun bc with Juggler we did eventually learn why he was like that and it was a bit boring, but we basically never go back to it except to make jokes about cutting down a tree and we just let him be fun and freaky instead

see, the way I see it, Juggler was already fun before we got He Cut Down A Tree Once. He was a funky guy being petty at an adult peer.

Tregear (as shown on screen) is out there being petty & ruining a middle-schooler's life every day, and that's not fun, it's genuinely concerning 😭

Basically a long way round of saying, yeah; I absolutely agree -- because I think expanding on those elements would help bring people around on the things Taiga already does well!
