is there a contemporary equivalent to The Neverending Story? like does anyone still make children’s movies that traumatize and scar kids for life or is everything just Sing 2 now

the Spike Jonze Where the Wild Things Are movie was probably weird and uncomfortable for kids but it’s also like 15 years old now

Studio Ghibli just released The Boy and the Heron last year so it's definitely still on the table.

Flow seems like it would be pretty traumatic for a kid.

They used to have to make movies with adult themes so the parents would actually go to movies.
Not necessary when the kids can just stream at home.
