NGL, I still remember to this day the DEEP disappointment I had as a teenager when I got my “All Music Album Guide” and saw the critics listed Division Bell at three stars. They can do that to The Final Cut (but even that’s better than three!), but they can’t do that to The Division Bell!!!

I grew up with animals and the division bell being "my" PF albums (dark side eventually clicked in a big way but I think it unnerved me as a kid) so the critical appraisal was baffling to me. It's a deeply beautiful record - possibly their most beautiful!

Listening to Dark Side is a core memory for me: my dad bought it and a CD player as presents for like my 12/13th bday, and he told me to “play it loud,” and I had no idea what I was about to hear and it blew me away. But The Wall is the one that took me a while to warm up to.
