Xer here: The truth is that most of GenX sucks horribly. The strange thing was that the heroes of the movies were the outcasts, and for a wild moment the whole thing flipped and it was cool to be weird. But most of those people were just conforming again. 90% or so are straight up assholes.

To put a fine point on it: IMO, the most important GenX movie is Heathers. You really have to understand that the casual, pervasive cruelty in that movie was not exaggerated. It's easy to focus on the violence, which really is relevant here, but also important that literally *nobody* was healthy.

That was a very small subset of their generation, though, and most people polled at the time opposed Dr. King's tactics and other civil rights activists. The idea that most Boomers supported or were involved in protest is historical revisionism.

There’s also nothing wrong with students seeking the advise of seasoned or professional organizers/activists, to try & have the most safe & effective demonstrations possible. My friend is one such person, working for non-profits & unions. He’s the not an agitator, but I’m sure would be labeled one.
