If the government doesn't bail out James Woods, whose house burned down after he canceled his woke fire insurance, I'm going to become an even bigger libertarian.

Lefties and libertarians agree that the government should protect the homes of libertarians in a disaster, and therefore it should, but they disagree about whether it should protect anyone else and therefore out of caution it shouldn't.
If you cancel your "woke" insurance then you took a positive action & you don't have a leg to stand on. I think that insurance companies who refuse to pay their insureds should be liquidated & their assets sold to pay for the claims they refused.
Without 103, insurance would be priced at mkt value which most people couldn’t afford. Or insurers would just leave. Or the the insurers wouldn’t pay. Kinda what Florida is going through.
I think the point here is that insurers are just leaving. Premiums go up with property value. Someone like James Woods, with a home in Pacific Palisades, likely wouldn't have a problem affording the higher premium if it was an option.
Premiums have to reflect risk for the system to work at all and the reason insurers are pulling out of CA is because they—essentially—haven’t allowed to charge what would be necessary to accurately reflect that risk.
People willing and able to pay higher premiums have the option of FAIR, but despite woods’ whining about DEI the real issue is that the wildfire prone areas will never be again be profitable (and thus possible) to insure outside of a government backstop
Because the California state government doesn't allow the insurance companies to hike premiums in high-risk areas, so insurance companies are leaving those areas.
Look insurance companies are the spawn of Satan but that’s not an article about what insurance companies did, that’s an article about what Woods said insurance companies did. Summarizing people’s online opinions about provable/disprovable facts is one of the weakest forms of “journalism”
Our Florida company made us put on a new roof last year under threat of cancellation. You have no choice because most companies have stopped writing homeowners insurance.
Just wait until the next renewal after that comes up. I hope they don’t find a different reason for cancellation. That’s the kind of thing that they do—after they made you jump through hoops the year before.
Ours did the same thing. I told them over and over that there was nothing wrong with our roof. I had a roof inspection done, provided them with the report, and then they accepted it and renewed our policy. We have a concrete roof that is supposed to last “forever.”
Did government drone create chemtrails that targeted Mel Gibson and James Woods' homes? This South Carolina congressman thinks so and he is ready to take his investigation national.
The fire insurance amendment was cancelled because of CA’s fire danger, similar to what they do in flood zones. You can purchase separate fire insurance. It’s not cheap but neither is rebuilding a multi million dollar home.
I think given how many cancellations there were in the last several months, there are a lot of folks caught up trying to reinsure. I’ve dealt with this personally in NY, with insurers not writing new policies, and having to scramble among quotes at HUGE cost variability and coverages. It’s hard.
I was referring to the future of real estate in California, particularly LA. That said, Rudy confounds me. I mean, 🤡 didn’t even shove the pillow guy under the bus that hard. And Rudy is STILL pitching for him. 🤷♀️
When I saw CNN and ABC interviewing him I was pissed. "yes, he spent the last almost decade calling us illegitimate but he has a sad story now! We must interview the multimillionaire!"

I guess it's the clean living, especially the lifelong avoidance of cocaine. I hear he has never, ever touched the stuff.

I also agree with another poster... 4 months prior, he had time to find new coverage.

Gift article for context. They talk about the state insurance.
