Not trying to get all alternative medicine here, but is it possible that leprosy MIGHT be caused by an imbalance in humors? Has the government allocated any funds to pay healers to try some cutting edge bloodletting or leech techniques before exiling the lepers completely? Something to consider.

Leprosy, also known as Hansen's disease, is primarily caused by the bacteria Mycobacterium leprae. It can also be caused by Mycobacterium lepromatosis.

The disease is transmitted through prolonged, close contact with an untreated person, typically via airborne droplets from the nose or mouth.

Leprosy is easily diagnosed and treated. It’s not easily contagious - apparently long term exposure to an infected person. Treatment is possible. Maybe talk to your Doctor if you’re worried.
