Can’t understand the whole debate issue and how it is seen as important. I want a PM who is smart, ethical, consultative etc. The ability to be quickly glib in an artificial environment is at the bottom of the list of skills I want a leader to possess.

Apparently the debate they are trying to make an issue out of is a private media co that wanted the Liberals to pay $75K for the debate. This is the best that PP has against Carney. As usual somewhere between a lie and making something out of nothing which is where PP lives.

I think the reporting implied things that weren’t quite as it was. I have family and friends in QC and they took it badly. But none knew it was a pay to play at 75K. That changes things. Also not everyone likes Radio-Canada so doing the TVA debate may have been good.

For context, $75k was the fee to run for the Liberal leadership when Trudeau got in. When Carney was just picked, that fee had already increased to $350k. So that's $350k plus now the conservatives want the liberal candidate to spend an additional $75k on a debate. 1/

Maybe it’s an unpopular opinion but I respect him for declining a $75,000 buy-in. Makes me feel hopeful he’ll be fiscally responsible with his background. I’m not endorsing candidates not to speak out, but I do think that price tag is excessive. There’s probably a reason for it I’m unaware of?

If they're serious about being elected, yes. Quebec is about 20-25% of the population. As well, in the 1970s the FLQ waged a civil war which resulted in special treatment including french language supremacy. Very little respect in Quebec for Indigenous languages unfortunately.

I saw an interview with Tom Mulcair today and he was saying the extra French debate was mainly because 90% of news interviews with the candidates are in English.. so French Canadians feel they need an extra debate to get to know the candidates in their language & to debate issues specific to Quebec
