Tens of millions of American Christians are embracing a charismatic movement known as the New Apostolic Reformation, which seeks to destroy the secular state, @mccrummen.bsky.social reports. Now their war begins.

This is a war they can’t win. Too many of us non-ass hole Christian types will join forces with the secular forces and other religious affiliations to shut down these wolves in sheep’s clothes. I am fairly certain “we” have millions more than they do. I will die in defense of my religious freedom.
They were never in the shadows. They've always sought to destroy secularism while using all the technology that secularism has given us. Like all religious people, they are the victims of fraud.
There are a great many people, billions in fact, who are going to be pretty disappointed when confronted with their end and the realization that there is nothing else. What arrogance to believe that man is guaranteed more than any other living thing on earth! Live fully now. There is nothing more.
Atlantic writers have been lecturing us for months that Harris deserved to lose and ‘wokeness’ was the great threat to Democracy. Now they have to drum up a new bogeyman to get clicks. How about Christians? Sure, why not. Anything to keep the business going.
While @theatlantic.com spent the last decade hurling “cancel culture” at Black and queer kids, which turned out not even to reflect any principled stand when billionaire bigots for Netanyahu wanted mass arrests for speech and the “cancel culture” chorus suddenly went mute.
Christianity, as taught by Jesus Christ, was not involved in politics. It was about individual salvation & “spreading the word” included doing good works. And if people didn’t want to be “saved,” disciples were to move on.
"...comes out of the shadows." An interesting choice of words, to quote the character Ernst Janning explaining the rise of Nazism from the movie Judgment at Nuremburg, "The country is in danger. We will march out of the shadows!"

Excellent piece. So is the NAR movement going to merge with the oligarchy? We see this for sure in JD Vance. Or are we already there? This is terrifying.
Ronald Reagan planted the seeds of this movement. I keep warning people about these (so called) christians taking over schools, media, governments. Pay attention, folks.
Such Americans wanting a Christian nation run with Christian fantasies for laws, by people who hate everyone who isn’t vanilla AF, including hating most women, all POC above pasty white, anyone who has a sexuality beyond militant stationary position, ARE in fact the Nazis we have feared since WWII.
And these Americans are teaching themselves and their children that everyone like you and me and Kamala Harris, ESPECIALLY if you’re female, are all demons that they must defeat. They have actually perverted their own beliefs to hate other Americans, using their own prayers against us.
Religious belief is inherently a perversion. It requires you discard reason and empirical reasoning, ceding power to nefarious characters, so that you can go to some mystical place in the sky!
Wow. Just. Wow. I had Peter Wagner for a class at Fuller Seminary before he got into all this wacko stuff. I'm a follower of Christ who simply confesses the Nicene Creed and the centrality of Christ. NAR is so far from authentic Christianity that theologically it can only be described as heresy.
Their religious movement is nothing more than a means to seize power and impose their values upon us. Organized religion is failing because of movements like this.
This is terrifying. It is hard to understand how grown men and women can get so delusional. They're behaving like children who believe in the tooth fairy. If they feel disdain from the "educated types", then yes. It's because they deserve it. If they want war, they'll have it.
1. A religion is based on morality.
2. A state is based on ethics.
3. People with morality but no ethics will occasionally decide to join a religion that wants to upend the state.

Tens of millions?
I mean, okay, but how many of us have crisscrossed the country without ever meeting one. Who is doing the counting, and how? Do they have a membership dues? A listserve?
For reference, there are 52 million Roman Catholics in the US. Just over a million Presbyterians.

How is it possible I have never met a single person who espoused these New Apostolic beliefs? Read about them, sure, but never met one.

Facts are a problem for #religion. Or, they were before #Trump.
When #God invented #TRUMP, SHE was only joking...
You don't have to look that far in the past to see most proselytizing was done with the implicit threat of violence

Lots of applicable info if you swipe up and down in the below thread.
Call it what it is. It's a cult.
no it began decades ago
It is a subtle distinction but that's why it keeps coming up over and over again - normal people don't realize that difference.

There is always a new flavor for the same thing, and it eventually will crash. The reason is extraordinarily simple:

These people are not “an army of God,” but mindless drones in a reactionary force to destroy gains in human rights.
They are Christofascists, and opposing them is our moral duty.
