Almost 14 years after he accidentally posted the first lewd photo to his Twitter account, Anthony Weiner is running for city council in New York City, writes Josh Tyrangiel. “Is his candidacy a test of America’s capacity to forgive?”:

Obviously, Americans don’t care about such things. Apparently, you can have 34 felonies, be photographed with an international sex crime ringleader, have a life long history of fraud and tax evasion, be impeached two times, and lead an insurrection and still become president.
1/2 Amazing writing by The Atlantic - "Weiner, who was caught texting pictures of his penis, first denied it, then admitted it, then resigned from Congress, then ran for mayor of New York City, at which point he sexted again under the alias Carlos Danger, was caught again, lost the election,.......
2/3 sexted a photo with his young son in the background, sexted a minor, and forfeited a laptop with emails from his estranged wife that caused the FBI to reopen its Hillary Clinton email investigation, greasing the way for Donald Trump’s 2016 victory.........
Yes,and it's gotten worse since the debut of reality TV. I don't blame TV, but the cultural psyche has deteriorated as increasingly worse behaviors are seen as entertaining and acceptable.
Has he no shame? I’d say give him a second chance if he’d been 15 or 16 and his frontal lobe hadn’t matured fully, but an adult sending multiple dic pics to multiple people?? Uh-uh.
Well, it worked for The Convicted Felon, didn't it? And this is the lame brain we have to thank for having a convicted felon in OUR White House.
Why wasn't he prosecuted for at least the picture he sent with his young son in the background? Let's see, he's W, ingrained in NY Politics, many $$, yep
When he entered the mayoral race in 2013, he knew he was still sexting minors. And he knew reporters would be looking for it. His arrogance & anger when it was uncovered told me all I needed to know about his personality and judgement. I don't like him and, more importantly, I will never trust him.
No thinks. BTW, what ever happened with Alan Grayson? He had some piss n vinegar in him. I kinda liked him and how he’d piss off the Right with pesky things like facts.
I’m get they went after them for sexual deviance (with hypocrisy being off the charts), but I don’t recall Grayson having anything like that. He was brash and spoke the truth. He needs to get back in the game.
Millions of people in this country, but we can't find better than a 'pussy-grabber' and guys like this so enamored with himself that he has to display his ugly wares on the phone? Seriously?
14 years! I know that my capacity to forget is much greater than my capacity to forgive. I'm Gen X so I blame the brain cells I sacrificed in hs and college.
14 years is a long time, but some public screw-ups just stick, especially when they’ve become cultural shorthand. I’m with you: forgetting comes easier than forgiving sometimes, especially when the comeback feels more like a test than a genuine turn of the page.
I would say that was that dipshit FBI director Jim piece of shit comey and Hillary's own personality that was worse than wet cardboard. You can't put any blame on this guy for that. He has a lot to be blamed for, but not this.
No, it’s a test of New York Democrats’ integrity. We already know Republicans will jettison character and virtue for the opportunity at power. Will Democrats be better?
In my world, there will be no forgiveness for Men who continue to avoid accountability. These men are no less denying reality than Donald Trump and need to be treated as equally dangerous. Lying is not cuter in Democrat.
This gutter slime keeps crawling back out of the muck and no doubt people will vote for him because they cannot be bothered to read about him. They will just recognize the name and put a check mark.
God I hope not. It’s not about forgiveness. It’s about the character and integrity of elected officials. There are plenty of well-qualified candidates to choose from.

truly troubled human
I often half jest that I blame the Kardashians.
No, his candidacy is a test of America’s capacity to remember.
Why wasn't he prosecuted for at least the picture he sent with his young son in the background? Let's see, he's W, ingrained in NY Politics, many $$, yep
Beyond which, it’s just city council.
There are plenty of jobs other than elected official.
Does he plan to actually reenact the famous Key&Peele sketch now, for clout?
