I've said it before, and I'll say it again: A replicator-produced porkchop _has_ to be kosher because it's just proteins arranged in the shape of a porkchop, and it being unkosher would imply that there's a level of fidelity at which Beyond Beef stops being kosher, which is obviously preposterous.

If you're stationed on a starship or some other situation where replicator-produced food is the norm, I think an observer would be likely to conclude that your food was replicator-produced.
Planetside, I think it probably depends on the tech-level of the planet?

Wait, while we’re on this, I have an earnest question about the @missionbarns.bsky.social pork products. They are lab/factory grown cells from a line derived from a biopsy of a pig (still living as far as I know). Are their products kosher? My spidey sense says no.

I'll add some complications, Talmud style. What if it's from a pig that's already been beamed-up-by-Scotty at least once. Beamed via transporter alive? Dead? Before or after the meat is prepared into a meal?

This is completely wrong! What if some less knowledgable Jew just walking by sees another Jew eating a replicator pork chop and thinks it's a REAL pork chop and therefore gets the idea that pork chops are kosher? Imagine the consequences! It's just like kitniyot during Pesach!

I just looked up a couple dates and there is a certain irony of Roddenberry’s misunderstanding of religion being threaded through so much of the original Star Trek series… which began airing the year George Lemaître died.

Lemaître, for those who don’t know, is the mathematician and Catholic priest who pioneered the “big bang” theory before it was known as that. (He called it the primeval atom which is frankly hella better and less misleading but that’s a different complaint.)
