It’s a much better flag, but still has British colors. Australian Flag should be predominantly Green and Gold.
*I personally love the idea of working the Indigenous flag into a Green & Gold flag.
Eg, Our current flag, but with Indigenous Flag instead of Union Jack, stars & background green & gold.
Love it!…I don’t respond to the Aussie flag anymore.
Every time I look at it I picture a moron draped in it or the old fuck who lives up the road with it in the front yard or as a handle on a so called patriots post.
It’s divisive for me

The old fuck I refer to is a bloke & wife came from Sydney with his massive Super payout, then inserts his misogynistic, homophobic, bigoted anti everything bs into the community.
We knew we were in trouble the day the flag went up!
Mine are quieter and I’d say of the not thinking deeply about anything much type rather than boldly racist. They’ve been nice to us. And ‘big flag’ guy especially during the bushfires here when we were new to the area.
I think the southern cross is very appropriate to us in the southern hemisphere. And the dark blue is our night sky. Also those colours contrast beautifully with the reds of the First Nations symbol. It’s a corker of a design.
The southern cross is something we all see as we look into the sky at night. No matter if we share it with other countries in our hemisphere. It pulls us together rather than sets us apart. That’s a good reminder that we depend on other countries in our region
True, but that’s foreign affairs not the flag. The flag is supposed to identify us, set us apart from others. As it stands, very few outside of Australia and New Zealand know how to distinguish the two flags.
That’s the current Aus and NZ flags. The discussion was about the design for a new Australian that the poster put it up for comment. I personally love the use of the southern cross as a key element of the design, as it is a part of all Australian lives, both First Nations and settlers.
I believe it does unify us, because it is inclusive of First Nations people with all us settlers. And we all exist under the Southern cross, which unifies us more broadly
Take your point, but l think it works together quite well. And judging by the many favourable comments, l think others agree. However , neither you or l will have the final say in this. I just hope we get a new flag before l depart this earth. Cheers
I agree, but I don't think a white great grand daughter of a "selector" should do anything but encourage support for our First Nations choices. Marcia Langdon had some flag commentary in her 7am Podcast 26th Jan.
About myself? I think, as a white Aussie, my job is to support the blak community, and not to suggest to them what I think they should do.
A selector is someone who was given a choice of what aboriginal land they chose to colonise. Many did terrible things in the process and were lauded as pioneers.
It is… it’s my favourite of all the alternative flags to the rag we currently have. At least that one is ours and doesn’t have the flag of another nation in it.
Hard agree. But once we begin with the issues that matter - Voice, Treaty, Truth, Closing the Gap, Getting Attitudes changed - symbols of a reconciled and transformed nation will emerge from that process. Let's not start with the flag.
That was explored years ago because everyone loved it. But the flag is something that must be printed in all sorts of ways and we had to admit that not only did our graphic red ball with graphic white dots look rubbish in comparison with this charming painting, it would also be unmanageable.
I would like to see it incorporate the three colours of the Aboriginal flag, personally. Navy and southern cross is fine, but it's sort of harking back to the current flag. Think of what Canada did in 1973 - they came out with a whole new modern brand for their country.
