Okay this is a dumb idea and I’m gonna turn off the replies if it proves so but let’s do a Q&A on POLITICS. Ask me any serious, constructive question about national affairs and I, a know-nothing, will answer as best I can.

I get the sense the the current gop leaders don’t really expect to face a competitive election ever again, not really getting “how will we face the voters after this” vibes. On a scale of 1 to 10 how much am I over-reacting
When do we know the recession is on for real, and when do Republicans in Congress start trying to do something about it to save their backsides for 2026?
Follow-up - how confident are you that we will get accurate jobs numbers from the Bureau of Labor Statistics from this crew? Or will the losses be too obvious to ignore and paper over?
A question I asked @mcfaulmike.bsky.social - does President Trump have ANY cards to play with Putin? Or does he have as weak a hand as he accuses Pres. Zelenskyy of having?
We’re by far the richer and more powerful country so yeah we have cards to play but Trump won’t use any of them because he wants us and Russia to rule the world together
Each side like to say the other is in an echo chamber being totally duped by propaganda. How worried are you that any of your own views are influenced by propaganda?
I’m definitely influenced by likeminded friends and colleagues. That’s just natural, but the river of shit online has mutated that dynamic beyond comprehension
Will countries like the UK & France start to push back on the international games from MLB, NFL, NBA - and I also mean lower attendance and booing the anthem.
“A friend of mine” has a father that is undocumented. He’s been here for over 35 years. No criminal record. When should I decide to move him back to Mexico if I want to avoid him going to some sort of concentration camp? Will there be a sign? Or will it be too late by then?
Brexit. The same greedy sob’s that convinced GB that isolation was better for them than unity with their European partners have also convinced 1/3 of the US to do the same foolish thing.
Cheers, yeah I wish Starmer was a little less cautious and moved faster to create the changes we need but it's a multi-year project to fix the system wide problems the Tories wraught on us. He is stepping up on the International stage though which is impressive.
What does the phrase "everything that's happened so far with Trump could lead to a left-wing version of the Tea Party" mean to someone who hasn't pickled their brains online?
Okay I turned off the replies but this actually went pretty well! Nice to talk this stuff out a little. Thanks to all y’all. As a reward, here’s some Carterfarter, aka America’s Mutt.
Any thoughts on what the best way every day citizens can best protect and prepare themselves in the face of a disintegrated HHS (and partner agencies)?
I have a theory I share with my doomer friends but I don't think I articulate it well. We don't have to worry too much because it's not the Supreme Court or Congress that's going to be a bulwark, it's big money. The corporations won't allow anything too radical to change and mess with their bag.
My similar theory is the Bond market but same process. There will be a tipping point where something happens, rates rise dramatically, and all of this breaks.
Gotta be Minnesota. Longest current state run of voting Dem for president (since '76!), hasn't elected a Rep to statewide office in almost 20 years, surrounded by red states, borders Canada, surprising number of Fortune500 companies, big ag and mining interests.
Maine's like one of those 3rd round value picks that ends up being a solid starter at an unglamorous position but still key to the success of the team.
Padilla voted Yes on Burgum, Rubio and Duffy; not counting on him for much resistance. Schiff makes it hard to find his phone numbers other than Sacto and DC and his voicemail inbox is full when you try to call him; voted Yes on Collins, Rubio and Duffy; not counting on him either.
Does the abuse of fed executive powers by the Trump admin mean the Dems are about to become the party of states rights? Will that pivot be successful and stick?
Friends in red states are becoming very active in local politics, and I'm envious/proud of them, but compared to what's being done at a federal level, it feels like they're bringing a knife to a nuclear weapon fight. Do they/we have a real chance anymore? Is it time to circle the wagons?
The right wing shift of American politics has been 40+ years in the making.
Anti-Republicans need to play a similar strategy. Contest EVERY election at EVERY level. School board, villages, town boards, city, county governments.
Because they have NO plans or ideas other than "we want it all".
Gonna be hard when they gots all the money.
Have to start there, any movement of this size has to be economic. Every dollar we spend is a vote, no politicians beholden to the same demons who we are fighting, rebuild unions.
Go after their money.
Yes! Exactly this! Support labor, local causes, locally owned businesses, local politicians. Affect change where you live then move outward.
Don't forget your data is currency these days as much as actual money. Don't feed the tech bros. Lots of info out there on how to minimize your exposure.
It’s what the right spent the last 40 years doing and it’s extremely slow and effective if you can change things on the smallest level then keep growing.
Is there any chance a legit 3rd party can come out of this? I’ve lost faith in both parties (never had any in the right) and I feel like most “normal” people feel similar
It feels like, on both sides, the desire to stay in office is the only driving force behind anything anyone does and they will go along with whatever they think will help, no matter how awful or who they have to sell out. Is there any real reason to think that will change?

the tea party started out just angry about economic inequality then got turned quickly to gross social shit so hopefully it avoids that part.
But I don’t know where that point is.
