If you're one of the people in my mentions who earnestly believes that Canada has attained some sort of post-scarcity healthcare economy, this story should hopefully make it clear that they have not.

1) It all would have worked out (knee replaced, stitches, no surprise bills).
2) She would have never gotten her knee replaced because she couldn't afford it.
3) She would have gotten treatment and then spent months fighting with insurance to pay for it.
Making the woman wait 6 years was rationing. Being unable to transfer her back despite her open wound was rationing.
But the bottom line is that care is triaged by need. That's a good thing.
