"But the Tea Party was bad!" The Tea Party was bad because they were fascists, not because grassroots movements are bad. (Also they were arguably not grassroots, but that's a separate thing.)

In Dallas, Occupy was not astroturfed so much as it was completely overtaken by Ron Paul Libertarians within a few weeks. The letter was mainly an example of the fact that the Tea Party was definitely astroturfed, and there were people involved with it who were aware of that.

The Tea Party also delivered sincerely bad candidates. This movement is more than likely going to deliver bureaucrats and displaced fed workers and teachers to the ballot.
