Started to wonder if that's a big deal. I assumed that such orgs run in zero profit and hence would pay hardly any tax. But the tax exempt status opens doors: more donations, more grants, and even cheaper postage (and some sales tax removed in some states).

The KKK overall is NOT Tax exempt. However over 90 hate groups are tax exempt or were & lost it. Richard Spencer’s group was tax exempt (nonprofit) until 2017 bc he was too lazy to do paperwork. There’s loopholes in tax exempt laws but for the most part they’re registered as charities not religions

🫤 Yeah, while they may not have tax exempt status, only one place in the US considers the KKK to be terrorists (Charleston, South Carolina) and that was only because they wanted to do damage control after the Unite The Right rally.
