How big is the whole budget? To give perspective, CR passed last week forces DC to cut $1B mid-yr from a $23B budget. Surely, LA budget is bigger than DC. And LA is not being forced to cut immediately.
The total city budget is a bit over $12B. DC’s budget is so much larger because the same body serves the same purposes as LA city and county, and even a few functions of the state of California. DC’s government structure is weird.
LAPD is so damn lazy, horrible department. They did the quiet quitting during the BLM/defund the police movement and never started back up again. We need to abolish both LAPD and LASD and rebuild from the ground up, without the ludicrous amount of police gangs.
Shrink the police force. You're not New York, Los Amgeles. Also, New York...seriously shrink your police force. Amazingly, thanks to tourism, NYC has a budget surplus. But tourism to the US is sharply down.
