This must be how economists feel, as well. Of course, everyone knows economics teachers lied to us for generations.
No, inflation does not have to exist
No, the banks don’t hold virtually ANY of our money
Yes, we used to actually be on the gold standard until republicans killed it in the 70’s
the gold standard was bad actually, and unless you plan on a very strong redistribution regime you very much need inflation in order to ebb power out of the hands of geezers and into the hands of young adults
The gold standard would be a problem now because of all the inflation and record wealth disparity. It was different in 1971 and we could have built the country up within the old framework and made it more sustainable. My only point was that taking us off the gold standard gave banks unlimited power
The first Conald administration took my peace of mind and my belief that I wasn’t surrounded my sociopaths.
And the second administration will take my belief in the rule of law here, without which I can no longer teach law to college kids. I can’t justify or explain any of this to them.
Well here's a legal question for you. If Trump admin tries to take my Social Security and Medicare away, can I sue the government? Class actions perhaps? If someone can sue God (I think it's happened before?) surely Trump and his administration can be sued for stealing from me?
I would tend to agree. The white House, Congress, Senate, supreme Court, and a lot of state supreme courts all owned by GOP. Not sure if checks and balances will survive
🤣🤣🤣 A Con Law assignment was writing an appellate opinion. From the facts I was sure how I'd "rule". But researching precedent and applying learned principles my ruling was the exact opposite.
Everything we learned in Con Law especially! It’s so disheartening to watch SCOTUS become the very political arm the institution was allegedly designed to protect against.
I’d demand my money back. If they won’t hold bad Judges accountable for refusing to follow our laws, then what’s the point? It’s beyond ethics. It’s corruption. Not a “tip”. Who thinks it’s really a tip anyway? The lies we let them tell us. 🤬
Right? And in civics class. And my bff is an OB/GYN surgeon. She says same thing. She just has to stop remembering women’s reproductive health.
Man. What a hot mess!
I guess you could paraphrase Paul Simon now -
After all the crap I learned in law school,
it's a wonder I can think at all.
But my lack of education hasn't hurt me none,
I can read the writing on the wall...
Have I got this right? As from January in the US the law won’t matter, ethics are redundant, science is irrelevant & everyone is an expert as long as they have no qualifications & an IQ around 80 & pray to the great sky fairy?
If you think any legal proceeding initiated right now, while Biden is in office, will be decided before the lawless twatwaffle takes over, you have no idea how the US legal system works. Bless your heart for thinking the old rules still apply, but they already don’t.
As long as you can still pass the exam and get a job you’re doing good. Like most things in life you just have to be smart enough to take it until you make it.
Please don’t tell me that my son is halfway through law school as a grad student and oh my God I want this to work for him so bad. He’s worked so hard on this.
I wish they’d put all this on the warning label before I invested money in two degrees in academia and bought into their whole “democracy always wins” spiel.
It first started sinking in that the legal system is now irrelevant when I saw Legal Eagle's "Trump's never going to jail" vid where he looked like he was thinking "whats the point of any of this anymore".
There will be many moments like that to come, all over the place.
I hope he continues to openly act in such a fashion. Just rubbing our faces in our collective stupidity.
Why?
The only thing that people hate more than being robbed, is a thief flaunting their larceny.
He will form his own call to action against himself.
Why not? We just went through 4 years of sore loser 2020 election grievance from the right, and they just won the 2024 election. Apparently, it's a winning strategy.
The election campaign is over. To achieve success in the election, Donald Trump relied on certain forces to which he has corresponding obligations. As a responsible person, he will be obliged to fulfill them.
I wonder how Trump will explain the constitution in his little Bible. Doesn’t he want to get rid of the constitution I’ll have to reprint his trashy Bibles.
This statement hit me hard and has the ring of a pretty dark truth. The Law, once identified with Justice, is np longer relevant. We need to:
1. Get money out of politics (money has transcended the law and has become synonymous with buying Justice).
2. Law must supersede money as the path to Justice
I taught it to college kids for 15 years, including during the first Conald administration. The first term was extremely difficult. I’ve decided that I’m done. I wouldn’t know what to teach or how to explain any of this.
John, I am with you. I went to law school because I wanted to make a difference. I always believed in the rule of law. I must have been so naive. My grandfather was an attorney, a WWI vet, and a great patriot. He would be appalled at what has happened to the country he loved. I know I am.
Nah. What you learned in law school is the foundation of what is "right". Whether or not the powers that be attack what is "right" having people like you in the fight ensures that we are fighting from a position of strength.
My son, an attorney with his own law firm, spent two weeks in Italy with his family this summer. He said he wanted to just stay there and become an olive farmer. I'm afraid he may just do that now.
I've learned that following laws, acting in an ethical manner, and being a responsible and respectful member of society is not expected or required of everyone.
Medical ethics is going to be useless in the US in January without bodily autonomy and patient consent. It’s one of the many reasons why I’ve implemented my exit strategy.
You think you have it bad? Take a look at what's happening in Mexico, where they changed the Constitution and basically now anyone can be a judge. You just need to have a high school diploma & 5 letter of recommendation from your neighbors.
Democracy depends on an educated majority of voters. GOP policy is to keep ignorant people uneducated, which in turn means that their polices are destroying our democracy. Their policies are steering our country toward dictatorship and fascism.
I feel your pain and frustration - but think about how the guys who fought to WRITE THOSE LAWS and DIED defending them would have felt. We will have to fight back - there is NO failure UNTIL we give up. BUT let MAGA weaken themselves by their own insanity. It will happen sooner than it seems.

Same feeling for last 8 years.

"Let the perp buy justice as he defines it."
*herein defined as those who can't afford to buy a MoC or rent a Justice.

Just block the trolls at once, maybe being here won’t be worth it for them.

I have reached the point, anyone can be in the office. Leave prison, run for office, return to your illegal ways.
And ditto, SO MUCH ditto.
