I can't joke about polio at all. I knew a woman who spent her whole life flat on her back in an iron lung. Never went to a dance, or out to dinner. Never had sex or a baby. Never sat on a beach. Caught flu and died alone in her 50s, choked by her own vomit.

Most ppl don't know how devastating polio is. My great-aunt survived polio but was crippled. She lived in pain, grief & poverty. She remembered running & playing, felt she was a burden.
