A book of Polish fairy tales. My father escaped a Russian labour camp in 1940. In 1967, the Red Cross reunited him with his family - they too had survived. I was given the book at that time - the image of wolves, forests, peasant struggle and the triumph of good over evil resonate still.

The Moorchild. I'm what some people call a third culture child. I felt torn into acceptable pieces by the conflicting cultures I had to code switch between, and ashamed of it. Then I read The Moorchild, which showcases a mix-race kid making her own decisions about her future. Reading it was healing.

Yes! I just visited a wonderful Maurice Sendak exhibit in LA a few months back and seeing the original drawings (and then life size costumes for the movie) was just wonderful! 👹
