yeah i think both takes are valuable, it's just interesting to look at them together! they both are BEATEN. in the movies he becomes a sad old man who has recognized his powerlessness and failure, and in the books he doesn't and becomes compy food, but both are taken down quite meaningfully

Rewatched this on Sunday as a YouTube freebie. Nothing tops Malcolm's monologue in the book, but when Jeff Goldblum says in the movie, "You didn't earn the knowledge for yourself so you don't take any responsibility for it," Hammond should have just excused himself into the sea.
