I also grew up in a very Catholic household. While I loved "real" pancakes, I couldn't stand potato pancakes. And of course potato pancakes & molasses were on our Shrove Tuesday supper menu. Tasted like disappointment, especially knowing my friends were having "actual" pancakes with syrup. 😂
Interestingly, I also grew up in a Catholic family, but I never had pancakes on Shrove Tuesday until I moved away. I don’t think it’s a very big tradition in Italian immigrant households.
Maybe its because my parents barely are catholic and ive been an atheist since i was 7, that Pancake Tuesday has been non-existent in my life until i stumbled upon Twitter after i moved here from the south shore. Also its Waffles>French Toast>pancakes
