No vocal leaders + poor CB play throughout the sequence. I will give the DMs on the field a pass on this goal because at the time, it was Zouhir and Pirani as they went uber-desperate to equalize.

IMO you can't put Pirani in that role in any situation, but I get why they tried it.

Agreed. Pirani at DM is the reason for this goal which is a thing that shouldn't happen.

I'd argue the Pirani/Leal collision just before this was more frustrating because they were in their comfort zone (attacking third).

I really like Lesesne. And any commentary after a 6-1 loss should probably be taken with a heavy dose of salt. But the sum of this team is less than the individual parts.

A big problem I had with the Donovan & Howard segment that did the rounds was that they got an fact wrong.

DCU isn't cheap! Their transfer balance since the start of 2022 is $14.5 million in the red.

It's that when they spend $500k and up, they miss like 75% of the time.

Anyway, DCU spends at a level where they could build a team competing for like...5th in the East. You can go somewhere with that, the money is *and has not been* the problem. They just struggle, bar Benteke & Schnegg, to identify the right players to spend that money on.

To be fair to Mackay I think they're 3 windows (and 2 of those are less useful winter windows) into a 6-window rebuild, & he's mostly (KDP aside) let the right players go. But, his hit rate on transfers into MLS needs to substantially improve this summer, or Enow/Rowles have to suddenly find form.

I think you are off by 1 window. They are trying to be reasonable by the start of next season. They want world cup traffic. I believe all players are earning their 2026 contracts. This is just 2026 preseason

I think Enow needs to find minutes. I really like his ability to "create chaos" (one of the tenants of whatever Troy wants to do). But he's being relied upon to play as a more "stay-at-home" 6 that doesn't really fit his game IMO. I really want to see Enow and Peltola on the field together.

The roster is pretty much his at this point, and I am not impressed. Any random expansion team seems capable of constructing a playoff caliber roster out of the gate, and here we are doing the Sisyphus thing no matter who is in charge.

I really hope they can settle in and adjust to what Troy wants to do. I fear what happens to Troy if we get the shit kicked out of us again this weekend. It would be a knee jerk reaction if they let him go but the tactics and optics don't look great right now.

Scrolling through transfermarkt and doing this without deep dives, but on players they've spent $500k on fees and/or salary in the Audi Field era, I count 4 big or solid hits, 11 big misses and a handful of moves that are shrugs.

Basically for every Schnegg there's a Jeahze and a Robertha.
