Damn, we are the last house on a dead-end one lane road. No homes above us on the mountain, have a creek, and a spring that straight feeds our pond. No way would I dip water from creek or spring to use for family unless tested and/or boiled. I would hate to spread the risk of dysentery to idiots.
Not just dysentery but cholera as well. You hope all your sewage is treated, but with these springs, you don't know who has been pooping in the springs' watershed or what they were sick with.
These guys will use their raw water to wash out the containers they get their raw milk delivered in, and the bottles they use to feed the raw milk to their babies.
For those who, like me, are loath to give NYT yet another click (or just want to read the article without dealing with the firewall, knowing full well that the NYT makes plenty of money regardless), here's the exact same story found on Dnyuz:
The bigger danger with spring water is heavy metals and pesticides. And, of course, ppl thinking they are drinking from a spring when it's a creek runoff.
My own well at our place has arsenic in it so we use a whole home filter system. I wish we could get city water where we live.
