fwiw my position is that the trans/sports “debate” is not a convo that benefits liberal politicians and that it’s preferable to avoid having it if possible.

unlike mattY i don’t think the solution to this conundrum is to keep talking about the issue but thru repeating anti-trans talking points.

Discussed this w/family last weekend. It's insane to me that so many harp on competition & this issue at all. What is percentage of boys/men who transitioned that play sports? Don't they take hormone pills to help w/the transition? If so, is their performance affected? Also, why do so many care?

I don’t get why dems never point out there’s like 10 ncaa trans athletes, it’s crazy the Rs are obsessed with 10 people playing sports. Also, with younger people their solution is to have some rando “approve your kids genitals” for sports. Accurately painting the Rs as weird and creepy as hell.

And it's sort of ironic because sports isn't fair! Every single person in sports realizes that at a certain level their performance and even what positions they can play are assigned by chance. Your mom and dad hooking up in a singles bar has more to do with it than your gender.

The opposition to the "sports issue" is so easy though, there is no reason to let them have it. Sports, esp high level, are already widely regulated by use of research of scientists and doctors due to the massive wealth we place in it. Its not hard to remind people of this, it's common sense.

Part of the plan here is to destroy girls' sports. Even if you have a cis daughter, are you willing to take the chance of having her stripped naked and her body examined without you even there to supervise? I wouldn't want to take that risk.

Oh 100%, I remember having arguments about that with friends in 2018 about it. They couldn't start from "ban girl's sports", so you start with "you need to allow random adults to molest your kids" and go from there. I'm surprised they haven't gotten farther really.

Because it's literally the only example where trans rights allegedly impinge on someone else's rights, it's their only reply to the common-sense live-and-let-live ethos. I still think they need to get over it (athletic ability distributes unevenly anyway), but that's the shred they hold onto.
