Cost of living in CA is out of control & it’s harming our state’s economy & vibrancy.
I wrote this piece about what Democrats need to do to tackle the problem: Make it easier to build the things people need so they’re less scarce & less expensive, eg housing, clean energy, child care, mass transit.

Prop 15 passing would've helped a lot. 😞
I appreciate Alex Lee's flight against corporations owning single family housing, too. We need the housing, but we need to control hoarding.
(I know that wasn't your point)
hell, 1/2 of the city of San Francisco, is suburban.
In fact, we need to increase both -- but the cost to do so is WAY less than the savings available from zoning and permitting reform, which he properly recognizes.
Democrats were trying to do it. Republicans were against it.
Why are you blaming Democrats for it?
They promote something and the other side opposes it, you blame them.
The reality is California is full of Republicans, maybe of whom are very rich and very powerful (moreso than progressives by far).
It's only been 13 years since a GOP governor.
It's a bipartisan belief that dense housing, state owned housing, and public supportive housing should be not done.
Unfortunately, progressives and dems generally seem in denial about the scope and severity of the problem they created. Hopefully they come around soon.
California is incredibly developed. I think it's a ridiculous complaint.
California’s infrastructure is falling behind the rest of the world. We were good at building up into the 1980s, then it slowed.
LA metro is a great project, but we need much more. It’s also slow and expensive.
And they aren't having to bypass regulations that protect us and they aren't to chuck long hard won urban plans to do it.
Florida has collapsing apartment buildings and Texas can't keep the lights on.
So what gets built is the projects that are profitable for developers after you factor in years of delay with design review, neighbor backlash and meeting fatigue.
Our regulations are disastrous and are directly responsible for the high housing costs. The deserve to be chucked.
Change the commercial building limits, yes, but not residential.
In fact there have been props that give seniors GREATER benefits than prop 13.
