Thank you. i know a few people who married and divorced young. In our state, it takes a month to three months to fully, legally change your name, especially if it isn’t specified in the divorce that you can Immediately go back. Those women will lose their voice. Lots of people will.

Please help get out details about the SAVE Act. The SAVE Act means only people with an original US birth certificate that matches a current US Federal id (like a passport) may vote. This eliminates married women, Naturalize Citizens, and marginalized populations that do not have a birth certificate.

It's not that simple. It's easier to get a passport with your married name now. If you change your name back to your maiden then you have to deal with SS card, bank accounts, CCs, utility accounts, Credit bureaus, health insurance, life insurance, POAs, etc.

Real IDs in most states are not enough to prove citizenship or cross borders. Enhanced Driver's Licenses (EDLs) do but are only available in Michigan, Minnesota, New York, Vermont, and Washington. A passport is the easiest way to have proof of citizenship.

If I have to change my name, I’m paying the $350 state court filing fee and getting the court order. Passports cost less, but have to be renewed. Court orders are for life. I’m already looking into how to file it. And I can see congress changing passport laws to match SAVE, and enhanced DL’s too.
