I don’t really feel companies like Spotify, Google , Meta, Twitter or Amazon who participate in the downfall of your society for their own profit deserve your dollars or your participation on their platforms.

I left Facebook for me we, canceled prime, unsubscribed from all Amazon streaming, now using a ps5 for streaming and a hi def antenna for local programing...just trying to do my part.
🤍 love it. I really think the corporations need a wake up. And people should pare down their spending on everything to the minimum. Just needs no wants kind of buying year. That’s what we are doing this year.
I did just recently delete my Twitter account and I don’t use Spotify at all. On the other hand, I don’t own a car so depend heavily on Amazon, which gives phenomenal customer service Facebook I can take or leave.
It isn’t possible to use the Internet or own a smartphone without supporting these companies in some way. Amazon in particular is also involved in unrelated industries, such as owning MGM.
You can attempt to boycott them if you’d like. But do your research and be aware of what you’re getting into.
Oh I know that. I just think people should be mindful that the more money they can divest away from companies who participate in the downfall of democracy the better.
Absolutely agree. Unfortunately many are clueless or just don't care because they think it doesn't affect them. 🙄
Same mindset as the fucks who voted for the orange arsehole. Never mind what it meant for everyone who would suffer. They just wanted cheaper groceries. 'Not my problem' mentality.
Understated but…Do you have an alternative? bc America everywhere is a big box nation, with the exception of sports, mainly interacts within social media in a virtual fake world, along with pre-boxed news, pre-boxed politics, and pre-boxed markets.
I agree. It is devilishly hard to avoid them, however. But it's a worthy endeavor. I'm aiming to consciously uncouple from them all by the end of this year.
Gonna be tougher than meets the eye.
- Millions shop Meta's marketplace daily
- Millions shop Amazon (I look up biz name there and find better deal directly to bypass Amazon)
- Millions use Google search, maps, browser, apps, etc.
Tip for online shopping: search for it on Amazon; then do a reverse image search on AliExpress. Works almost all the time. They both use the same factories.
Twitter > Bluesky, natch
Netflix > Tubi
Spotify > ipod/mobile playlist/CDs/Albums ;)
Google search > DuckDuckGo (also has a browser)
Amazon > Vevor/Aosom/Temu/Aliexpress/Banggood/AND Canadian business
I personally don't use Google cloud as I like my stuff on my local hard drive.
You will have to pry the platforms and products the average consumer has become comfortable with using from their cold dead hands. Trying to get people to do the right thing is like pulling teeth when it comes to something they find entertaining.
This all day. I love being a consumer. But I’m only consuming Canadian all year. And even that I’ll be careful not to buy from say loblaws who gouges Canadians or other shitty Canadian companies like Kit and aace and lululemon who support right wing BS with their “charities”.
Exactly. I have company lists that I check. Canadian Tire and my local shops, local eggs and veggies. Growing tomatoes and strawberries this year. I’m not boycotting CA actively but red states yes. Costco membership so I can help shelters.
Yeah the political apathy in Canada is a problem. I mean look at the idiot convoyers they can get organized and get out there why can’t we? And there’s so many organizations to join but there’s no collective supporting of each others causes and there really should be.
I wholly agree with you but I still have to live in this world so I lower my standards somewhat and allow the billionaires some control of me. But I don't like it.
While it may be hard, the process could begin.

Try to reduce the # of time u use Amazon: once a week to twice a month to once a month to once every 2nd month and so on....
This is the hill I'm currently dying on. No one wants to change habits, but also want all this shit to end. Well, it never will as long as a spotify playlist, or your cool new phone is more important than humanity. The hypocrisy on Bluesky is deafening.

That's a tough one to get past without paying a cable company

Spotify, easy
Prime, easy
Twitter, easy
Start easy and keep at it
Sometimes I'm able to find the original company and source directly... and on occasions cheaper (but, Amazon's free shipping is powerful)

I actually like Tubi - they have a great selection of older films and some aren't too old.
We watched Equalizer 1 & 2 on Tubi.
Netflix only has part 2.
I mean, I drove to every store that even MIGHT carry a "Call of Cthulhu" Investigator's Handbook...but...

(really wish i could get out of google's ecosystem, but it feels impossible to do so without making my life a heavy inconvenience)
