While I am delighted that there is a ceasefire of sorts, Israel should still be held accountable for war crimes , should foot the bill for rebuilding, should pay reparations and should get the hell out of Gaza permanently. Not going to happen in this upside down world though.

Not excusing anything. Putting in context (and bo need to be snide). Too often there tends to be a sense that Israel's actions in war or occupation, justified or otherwise, are absolutely unique. If that was not your intention then I apologize. But again, no need to be snide.

BTW. I've sat as an observer in Israeli military courts. Generally there does seem to be due process in open court, which leads me to suspect there's reason when there isn't.

(Once the lawyers and judge were all Arabs and we were the only Jews, but proceedings were in Hebrew. It was quite surreal.)

As long as there isn't a security imperative, I agree. The question is whether there's proper judicial oversight. I grew up in the UK (I was born here). Do you remember when the Blair gov tried and failed to pass 90 day detention without trial?

It's so hard to be hopeful..thinking about all the innocent children and civilians that have been annihilated and their grieving, displaced families (what's left of them)..it's devastating. I will try.
