Disabled people and others are continually scapegoated for the failure of the economy and it's quite clear a large part of that was, and continues to be, Brexit.

A part of the conversation that isn't happening and it needs to start happening.

On Saturday I drive from Italy to UK. I cross 5 national borders before I reach Calais. Five countries, all within the Schengen zone. None of them a hotbed of terrorism or crime. It works. It's nothing for Brits to be scared about.

I don't agree. I cannot understand the change of position from Liberal Democrats from their 4 stage solution to joining Single Market. A customs union in isolation offers nothing. A Single Market agreement is by far and away the best option for removing trade barriers and seeing economic growth.

The European Customs Union includes non EU states. The UK can apply to join that customs Union, or maybe some easements with it. It cannot "negotiate a new UK-EU customs union." That is a nonsense.

I think they are also trying to avoid the division the initial campaign sowed in society. there are families separated because of it and they don't want to inflict that again.

I don’t think they could care less about inflicting pain on people (see fuel payment…plans for disability benefits). There’s plenty of evidence of a swing in public opinion now in favour of rejoining. Sadly I think they are just running scared of the right, instead of setting the agenda themselves.
